Samnanger () is a municipality in the Midhordland region of Vestland county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Tysse. Other main villages in the municipality include Haga and Bjørkheim in Nordbygda. The municipality is located about east of the city of Bergen, Norway's second largest city. It surrounds the inner part of the Samnangerfjorden and the surrounding valleys. There are mountains that surround the municipality. The development of hydroelectric power plants started here in 1909. The municipality is the 274th largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Samnanger Church
Samnanger Church or Ådland Church ( no, Samnanger kyrkje or ) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Samnanger Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Ådland. It is one of the two churches for the Samnanger parish which is part of the Hardanger og Voss prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, wooden church was built in an octagonal design in 1851 using plans drawn up by the architect Andreas Grønning. The church seats about 250 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1329, but it was not new that year. This first church in Samnanger was a wooden stave church that may have been built as early as the 12th century. The church stood a little to the southwest of the present church building. Samnangerfjorden () is a fjord in Vestland county, Norway. The long fjord is located in the municipalities of Bjørnafjorden (municipality), Bjørnafjorden and Samnanger. The head of the fjord is located in Samnanger, surrounded by the villages of Årland, Samnanger, Årland, Haga, Hordaland, Haga, and Tysse, Hordaland, Tysse. Haga Church (Norway)
Haga Church ( no, Haga kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Samnanger Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Haga. It is one of the two churches for the Samnanger parish which is part of the Hardanger og Voss prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, wooden church was built in a fan-shaped design in 1995 using plans drawn up by the architect Helge Hjertholm. The church seats about 230 people. History In 1903, a small prayer house was built in Haga. In 1920, the prayer house was consecrated as an annex chapel within the parish. A church association was founded in 1944 to raise money for a new church. In 1967, the municipality gave land for the new church. Helge Hjertholm was hired to design the new church, but money ran short and the work could not go forward. Midhordland
Midhordland or Midthordland is a traditional district in the Vestlandet region of Norway. It consists of the central-west portion of the old Hordaland county (now part of Vestland county), mostly including the islands and coastal fjord areas surrounding (and including) the Bergen Peninsula. It includes the city on Bergen and the surrounding municipalities of Askøy, Austevoll, Bjørnafjorden, Samnanger, and Øygarden. Vestland is a county in Norway established on 1 January 2020. The county is located in Western Norway and it is centred around the city of Bergen, Norway's second largest city. Tinn is a municipality in Telemark in the county of Vestfold og Telemark in Norway. It is part of the traditional regions of Upper Telemark and Øst-Telemark.
