Sammarinese () are citizens and people of the Republic of San Marino. Language San Marino recognizes Italian language, Italian as the official language. The indigenous language, known as Sammarinese language, Sammarinese, is a variety of Romagnol dialect, Romagnol spoken by approximately 83 percent of the population. Religion Although historically San Marino fought against the political control of the Holy See, most Sammarinese people are Catholic, but there is no state religion. Flag Of San Marino
The state and war flag of San Marino is formed by two equal horizontal bands of white (top) and light blue with the national coat of arms superimposed in the center; the coat of arms has a shield (featuring three towers on three peaks) with a closed crown on top, flanked by an oak and laurel wreath, with a scroll below bearing the word LIBERTAS (Liberty). The two colors of the flag represent peace (white) and liberty (light blue). Although the ''Law on the flag and coat of arms of San Marino'' from 2011 refers only to the "official flag" of the republic, a ''de facto'' civil flag, which omits the coat of arms, can sometimes be seen flying. Some official sources of San Marino suggest that the civil flag is actually the bicolor with the coat of arms of the specific city it is used in, instead of the national one. Romagnol (''rumagnòl'') is a group of closely-related dialects part of Emilian-Romagnol continuum which are spoken in the historical region of Romagna, which is now in the southeastern part of Emilia-Romagna, Italy. The name is derived from the Lombard name for the region, ''Romagna''. Basilica Di San Marino
The Basilica di San Marino is a Catholic church located in the Republic of San Marino. While the country has a distinct domination of historic religious buildings of Christian faith, the basilica is the main church of the City of San Marino. It is situated on Piazzale Domus Plebis in the northeastern edge of the city, adjacent to the Church of St. Peter. It is dedicated to Saint Marinus, the founder and patron of the Republic. The present church was built in 1836 in place of an earlier one that dated to 7th century. It is built in the Neoclassical style, with a porch of eight Corinthian columns. Relics of St. Marino are enshrined in the basilica. History An earlier church was erected on the spot in the 4th century which was dedicated to the same patron.
