Samhall AB is a Swedish state-owned limited company with the task of creating meaningful and developing jobs for people with disabilities. The company was founded in 1980 and is today one of the Swedish state's largest companies in terms of number of employees. The name Samhall is similar to the Swedish word "Samhälle" which translates to English as "Community" or "Society". During the company's first decades, the business was dominated by its own industrial production, however today, most of the employees work in service or staffing in other companies. History Workshops, office work, housework, and other types of sheltered work began to appear in the 1960s in Sweden, with various actors, such as municipalities and county labour boards in charge of these. Disability Policy In Sweden
Of the 10.23 million people living in Sweden, it is estimated that around 20% are living with a disability. Since the late 20th century, Swedish policy toward disabilities has been centered around the idea of equal opportunity and equal rights for all. National, regional, and local governments play a part in creating an equal society, giving those with disabilities the chance to be economically and socially stable. Currently, Sweden has a two tier disability pension program. The first tier is a universal disability pension program that allows anyone between the ages of 16 and 64 to receive disability pay if they are unable to do a quarter of what they could initially do. The program is produced by and aired on SVT and has become known for the use of concealed cameras and microphones. In April 2016, after an interview with ''Uppdrag granskning'', the Icelandic prime minister Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson resigned, after a controversy concerning the Panama Papers. In 2017, as part of the programs reporting on the Paradise Papers they uncovered that the plane used to fly the crown princess and her newly wed husband from their marriage ceremony was registered in a tax haven. A regional council ( sv, region) is a self-governing local authority. There are 21 regional councils (one of which is a municipality having the same responsibilities as a county council), each corresponding to a county.
