Samara Mosque
The Samara Mosque (russian: Самарская соборная мечеть) in Samara is one of the largest mosques in Russia.http://samara.onfoot.ru/sights/cities/42.html It was built in the late 1990s in red brick. The main dome is 13.5 meters in diameter. The minaret rises to a height of 67 meters. The building was designed by Rasim Walshin, an architect from Samara. There is an apple orchard by the walls. The New Mosque should not be confused with the pre-revolutionary mosque dating back to 1891. Samara ( rus, Сама́ра, p=sɐˈmarə), known from 1935 to 1991 as Kuybyshev (; ), is the largest city and administrative centre of Samara Oblast. The city is located at the confluence of the Volga and the Samara rivers, with a population of over 1.14 million residents, up to 1.22 million residents in the urban agglomeration, not including Novokuybyshevsk, which is not conurbated. The city covers an area of , and is the eighth-largest city in Russia and tenth agglomeration, the third-most populous city on the Volga, as well as the Volga Federal District. Samarra
Samarra ( ar, سَامَرَّاء, ') is a city in Iraq. It stands on the east bank of the Tigris in the Saladin Governorate, north of Baghdad. The city of Samarra was founded by Abbasid Caliph Al-Mutasim for his Turkish professional army of around 3,000 soldiers which grew to tens of thousands later. In 2003 the city had an estimated population of 348,700. During the Iraqi Civil War, Samarra was in the "Sunni Triangle" of resistance.
