Salzungen
Bad Salzungen () is a town in Thuringia, Germany. It is the capital of the Wartburgkreis district. Geography Location Bad Salzungen is situated on the river Werra, east of Tiefenort and south of Eisenach. Divisions In July 2018 the former municipalities of Ettenhausen an der Suhl, Frauensee and Tiefenort were merged into Bad Salzungen. In December 2020 the former municipality Moorgrund was absorbed. In total the municipality consists of the central town (''Kernstadt'') and 21 sections (''Ortsteile''). Bad Salzungen Station
Bad Salzungen station is the railway station of the town of Bad Salzungen in the German state of Thuringia. It is located on the Werra Railway and on the Werra Valley Railway. History Bad Salzungen station was opened in 1858 by the private Werra Railway Company (''Werra-Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft'') and soon developed into a hub on the Werra Railway. Its importance continued to grow with the opening in 1879 of the first metre-gauge railway in Germany, the nearby Dorndorf–Kaltennordheim railway (''Feldabahn'' or Felda Railway), the opening in 1889 of the line to Liebenstein-Schweina, which branched off in the neighbouring Immelborn station, and the steadily increasing potash production in the nearby Werra potash district. Therefore the Felda Railway was converted to standard gauge in sections from 1906 until 1934. Bad Salzungen station was expanded to include an extensive marshalling yard. Eisenach–Lichtenfels Railway
The Eisenach–Lichtenfels railway (also called the Werrabahn in German—Werra Railway) is a single-tracked main line with a standard gauge of in Thuringia and Bavaria in southern and central Germany, that runs mostly along the river Werra. It runs from Eisenach via Meiningen to Eisfeld and, formerly, continued to Coburg and Lichtenfels. It was opened in 1858 and is one of the oldest railways in Germany. The railway company that built it, the ''Werra Eisenbahngesellschaft'' with its headquarters in Meiningen was also often called the ''Werrabahn''. The company also ran various lines branching off the Werra Railway. Frauensee is a village and a former municipality in the Wartburgkreis district of Thuringia, Germany. Since July 2018, it is part of the town Bad Salzungen. Geography The countryside around Frauensee is dominated by the Frauensee Forest (''Frauenseer Forst'') with its ''kuppen'', hills and high points, including the: '' Lehnberg'' (), '' Gertenberg'' (), ''Buchenberg'' (), '' Schälrück'' () and ''Langer Rück'' (). Wartburgkreis
Wartburgkreis is a ''Kreis'' (district) in the west of Thuringia, Germany. Neighboring districts are (from the north clockwise) the districts Unstrut-Hainich-Kreis, Gotha, Schmalkalden-Meiningen, and the districts Fulda, Hersfeld-Rotenburg and Werra-Meißner-Kreis in Hesse. History The district was created in 1994 by merging the previous districts Eisenach and Bad Salzungen, and a few municipalities from the district Bad Langensalza. The city Eisenach left the district in 1998 and became a district-free city and was incorporated into the district again on 1 July 2021. Tiefenort
Tiefenort is a village and a former municipality in the Wartburgkreis district of Thuringia, Germany. Since July 2018, it is part of the town Bad Salzungen. It is situated on the river Werra, 5 km west of Bad Salzungen, and 8 km east of Vacha, Germany. History An 1137 document of the Hersfeld Abbey already contains a reference to Tiefenort (Diffeshart). The establishment of the township was closely related to the castle Krayenburg, which dates back to 786 (at least). Bad Hersfeld
The festival and spa town of Bad Hersfeld (''Bad'' is "spa" in German; the Old High German name of the city was ''Herolfisfeld'') is the district seat of the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district in northeastern Hesse, Germany, roughly 50 km southeast of Kassel. Bad Hersfeld is known countrywide above all for the ''Bad Hersfelder Festspiele'' (festival), which have taken place each year since 1951 at the monastery ruins. The Werra (), a river in central Germany, is the right-bank headwater of the Weser. "Weser" is a synonym in an old dialect of German. The Werra has its source near Eisfeld in southern Thuringia.
