Sahel Academy
Sahel Academy is a Christianity, Christian international school in Niamey, Niger. It was established by Serving In Mission, SIM in 1987. It educates the children of Missionary, missionaries and the English-speaking people of Niamey. During the 2013–2014 school year, Sahel Academy had 200 students in grades K-12, representing 14 countries, and a staff of 40 from four nations. The school offers an English-speaking international curriculum, consisting of International General Certificate of Secondary Education, IGCSE (from Cambridge Assessment International Education, Cambridge) for grades 9–10. SIM is an international, interdenominational Evangelical Christian mission organization. It was established in 1893 by its three founders, Walter Gowans and Rowland Bingham of Canada and Thomas Kent of the United States. The initials originally stood for "Soudan Interior Mission," Soudan being an older spelling of the Sudan region of West Africa. After various name changes and mergers, the mission simply goes by "SIM" today. In French-speaking countries it is known as "Société Internationale Missionnaire." SIM is also a member of the Forum of Bible Agencies International. The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is an English language based examination similar to GCSE and is recognised in the United Kingdom as being equivalent to the GCSE for the purposes of recognising prior attainment.
