Sabah State Library ( ms, Perpustakaan Negeri Sabah) is a state department under the State Ministry of Education and Innovation Sabah which managing every of the public library branches in Sabah of Malaysia. The headquarters is located in Tasik Road, Off Maktab Gaya Road in Luyang of Kota Kinabalu. History The first library of North Borneo was established as a section of the Broadcasting and Information Department in 1953. Sabah
Sabah () is a States and federal territories of Malaysia, state of Malaysia located in northern Borneo, in the region of East Malaysia. Sabah borders the Malaysian state of Sarawak to the southwest and the North Kalimantan province of Indonesia to the south. Crown Colony Of North Borneo
The Crown Colony of North Borneo was a British Crown colony on the island of Borneo established in 1946 shortly after the dissolution of the British Military Administration. The Crown Colony of Labuan joined the new Crown Colony during its formation. It was succeeded as the state of Sabah through the formation of the Federation of Malaysia on 16 September 1963. Cession of remaining islands On 16 October 1947, seven of the British-controlled islands in north-eastern Borneo named Turtle Islands, together with the Mangsee Islands, were ceded to the Philippine government under a past treaty signed between the United Kingdom and the United States. Sabah Museum
The Sabah Museum (Malay: ''Muzium Sabah'') is the state museum of Sabah, Malaysia. It is sited on of land at Bukit Istana Lama in Kota Kinabalu, the state capital. History The original Sabah Museum location was established on 15 July 1965 in a shophouse in Gaya Street, Kota Kinabalu, largely due to the efforts of the Sabah Society. George Cathcart Woolley collection of photographs, diaries and other artefacts, bequeathed to the State Government of Sabah, formed the nucleus of the museum. The first curator of the museum was E. J. Berwick. The museum administration then came under the State Ministry of Community Services and within the same year in 1981 under the initiative of former Sabah Chief Minister Harris Salleh, a total of RM31.2 million was gathered for the construction of a new museum building with the construction started on 1 June. Tanjung Aru Library
Tanjung Aru Library ( ms, Perpustakaan Tanjung Aru) is a public library in the Greater Kota Kinabalu area of Tanjung Aru, Sabah, Malaysia. History The library complex was constructed as a replacement to one of the old Sabah State Library branch building in the city centre which has been demolished after it was declared unsafe. Its construction was jointly funded by Lahad Datu Water Supply Sdn Bhd and Sabah Development Bank under their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, each contributing RM20 million for the project. The building was completed in 2017 before opened to public on 1 April 2019.
