SPT TV
SPT TV is a Portuguese language Television channel in the United States that is owned by Seabra Portuguese Television. The channel launched in 1986 and is available via cable and satellite. It is the first Portuguese-language television channel based in the US and features the best programming from Portugal as well as local programming created especially for the Portuguese diaspora in the US. In January 2007, SPT TV launched SIC Notícias in North America, in partnership with SIC. It is currently available only on Dish Network. SPT TV features programming from SIC, a private network in Portugal. Programming includes news, entertainment, talk-shows, comedies, reality shows, sports, among other genres. 480p is the shorthand name for a family of video display resolutions. The p stands for progressive scan, i.e. non-interlaced. The ''480'' denotes a vertical resolution of 480 pixels, usually with a horizontal resolution of 640 pixels and 4:3 aspect ratio ( 640) or a horizontal resolution of 854 or less (848 should be used for mod16 compatibility) pixels for an approximate 16:9 aspect ratio ( 853.). Since a pixel count must be a whole number, in Wide VGA displays it is generally rounded up to 854 to ensure inclusion of the entire image. Standard-definition television (SDTV, SD, often shortened to standard definition) is a television system which uses a resolution that is not considered to be either high or enhanced definition. "Standard" refers to it being the prevailing specification for broadcast (and later, cable) television in the mid- to late-20th century, and compatible with legacy analog broadcast systems. The two common SDTV signal types are 576i, with 576 interlaced lines of resolution, derived from the European-developed PAL and SECAM systems, and 480i based on the American NTSC system. SIC Notícias () is the cable news channel of the Portuguese television network SIC (''Sociedade Independente de Comunicação'') and the second thematic channel of the station. It is available on basic cable and satellite. It replaced CNL (''Canal de Notícias de Lisboa''), a Lisbon region independent cable news channel owned by TV Cabo, on January 8, 2001. Since the end of 2003, SIC Notícias has also been available in Angola and Mozambique via satellite or cable. The channel is especially developed for cable, and its programming is almost totally made up of information and news programs.
