The SNCF Class Z 9500 electric multiple units were built by Alsthom between 1982–1983. They are, together with the Z 9600 units, the dual-voltage version of the Z2 family. They are operated by TER Franche-Comté, TER Bourgogne and TER Rhône-Alpes TER Rhône-Alpes was the regional rail network serving Rhône-Alpes région, eastern France. A crocodile is a component of train protection systems used in France and Belgium. It works similarly to the Automatic Warning System (AWS) used in the United Kingdom. Dynamic braking is the use of an electric traction motor as a generator when slowing a vehicle such as an electric or diesel-electric locomotive.
