SMC Lähiörotat is a group of Finnish rap artists with their songs focusing in the underground life of Helsinki. Their debut album ' was released on June 15, 2011. It peaked at #2 on the Finnish Album Chart. SMC is known for their humorous skateboarding-themed songs and music videos and their extensive and innovative use of Helsinki slang . Their lyrics are often satirical portraits of skateboarding culture, petty criminal lifestyle and vandalism. History 2009–2011 The group became known from the YouTube video "SMC Hoodrats". It was filmed for a movie called ''Skatemaniacs'', but also uploaded on YouTube in 2009. On the video, artists rap about good old times and hoods. It was directed by Pablo Films. Finnish hip hop or rap ( fi, suomiräp, räp) or (''suomirap, rap'') is a variant of hip hop music from Finland. The rapping (räppääminen) is mainly done in Finnish. Many rappers use Helsinki slang words; general slang and Finnish dialects are used too by some artists. Many early rappers ( fi, räppäri) used the English language. Some Finnish rap was already recorded in the early 1980s and some popular artists 1990s but it was not until the 2000s that it finally reached mainstream popularity. The first recorded Finnish rap song was "I'm Young, Beautiful and Natural" in the English language which was made by an artist called General Njassa in 1983. Rap music in Finnish language made its first breakthrough in 1990 when groups Raptori and Pääkköset and artist Nikke T got their records to Finnish charts. Gangsta rap or gangster rap, initially called reality rap, emerged in the mid- to late 1980s as a controversial hip-hop subgenre whose lyrics assert the culture and values typical of American street gangs and street hustlers. East Coast Hip Hop
East Coast hip hop is a regional subgenre of hip hop music that originated in New York City during the 1970s. Hip hop is recognized to have originated and evolved first in the Bronx, New York City. Jon Mauno Korhonen (born 5 January 1987 in Helsinki, Finland) is a Finnish rapper of Nigerian origin. Born in Helsinki, he lived in the city's Kruununhaka and Pihlajamäki neighborhoods, performing from the early 2000s. In 2005 he appeared as Juno in a TV reality show called ''Rap SM'' in the Finnish language rap section of the show. The other rappers in the Finnish leg were Kajo and Ruudolf. Juno joining various successful formations. Juno was first in the duo Hulabaloo with Mr. KO using hip hop, rap and electro influences. Signed to 3rd Rail Music record label, the duo released the album ''Sirkusteltta'' in 2008. Helsinki slang or ('Helsinki's slang', from Swedish language, Swedish , 'city'; see #Etymology, etymology) is a local dialect and a sociolect of the Finnish language mainly used in the capital city of Helsinki. Mobb Deep was an American hip hop duo from New York City. The duo consisted of rappers Prodigy and Havoc. They are considered to be among the principal progenitors of hardcore East Coast hip hopEdwards, Paul, 2009, ''How to Rap: The Art & Science of the Hip-Hop MC'', Chicago Review Press, p. 323. and hip hop in the mid-1990s. Mobb Deep became one of the most successful rap duos of all time, having sold over three million records. Shook Ones (Part II)
"Shook Ones (Part II)" is the lead single from Mobb Deep's 1995 album '' The Infamous...''. The song is a sequel to the group's 1994 promotional single " Shook Ones", with similar lyrics, but less profanity. The original song is featured on the b-side of some releases of "Shook Ones, Part II" and was also included on the international version of the group's album '' Hell on Earth''. The narrative is told from the perspective of inner-city youths engaged in territorial warfare and struggling for financial gains. The phrase "shook one" refers to someone who acts tough and hardcore but when faced with murder and crime, they are scared and run away. The song contains a pitched down sample of "Jessica" by Herbie Hancock and "Kitty with the Bent Frame" by Quincy Jones. The drum break is sampled from "Dirty Feet" by Daly-Wilson Big Band. Notkea Rotta
Notkea Rotta is a Finnish rap group consisting of members Notkea Rotta, Rautaperse (Komisario Jyrkkä), Rohtori Laine and Meno-Anu. The group mixes humour and comedy in their brand of hip hop, crafting original (and largely fictional) rap saga of the underground culture in the east side of Helsinki. Notkea Rotta heavily parodies - or pays tribute to - American gangsta rap. Notkea Rotta released their debut single "Pohinää" with Karelia Records. Their lyrical subject matter mostly deals with common Finnish street drugs (especially amphetamine), sex and the occasional clashes with the police. The group raps exclusively in Finnish, using a lot of Helsinki slang vocabulary, making it rather difficult for non-speakers to understand the lyrics.
