Røstlandet
Røstlandet is an island in Røst Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The island makes up the majority of the land of the municipality and is home to most of its residents. The island is very low and marshy, with the highest point on the island only reaching above sea level. There are many small lakes on the island, many of the wetlands areas on the island are located in a protected nature reserve. The village of Røstlandet is a fishing village that covers the southeastern part of the island. Røst Airport is located on the northern part of the island. Røst Church is located in the village. The remaining uninhabited parts of the island are dominated by sheep farming and racks for drying fish. Skomvær Lighthouse is located about southwest of the island. Røst Municipality
Røst is a small island municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is part of the traditional district of Lofoten. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Røstlandet on the island of Røstlandet. The island municipality is very small and is essentially a large fishing village centered around Røstlandet. Many of the residents are involved in the fishing industry or support the industry. There are six fish farms in Røst. During the main fishing season, there can be up to 600 fishing boats based out of Røst. The municipality is the 353rd largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Røst is the 351st most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 469. Røst Airport
Røst Airport ( no, Røst lufthavn; ) is a regional airport serving Røst Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The airport is located on the northern edge of the main island of Røstlandet, just north of the main village of Røstlandet. It is owned and operated by the state-owned Avinor, and the tower is remotely controlled from Bodø. The airport handled 9,889 passengers in 2014. Services are provided by Widerøe, operating Dash 8-100 aircraft on contract with the Ministry of Transport and Communications to Bodø Airport and Leknes Airport. Røst was first served using seaplanes from the 1960s, and then by helicopters from 1970. Røst Airport opened on 1 June 1986, initially with Widerøe operating de Havilland Canada Twin Otters. Røst Church
Røst Church ( no, Røst kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Røst Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Røstlandet on the island of Røstlandet. It is the church for the Røst parish which is part of the Bodø domprosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland. The white, wooden church was built in a long church style in 1900 using plans drawn up by the architect A. Evjen. The church seats about 270 people. The building was consecrated on 26 September 1900. Skomvær Lighthouse
Skomvær Lighthouse ( no, Skomvær fyr) is a coastal lighthouse in Røst Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The tower is located on the island of Skomvær, about southwest of the main island of Røstlandet. The lighthouse was first established in 1887 and it was automated in 1978. The area was listed as a protected site in 1999. The steel-hulled barque '' Skomvær'' takes her name from the lighthouse. Specifications The tall lighthouse has a red, cast iron, cylindrical tower that stands on top of a circular white stone base. The light is emitted at a height of above sea level. The light on top of the tower puts out two white flashes every 30 seconds. The 2,007,300-candela light can be seen for up to in all directions. Kunnskapsforlaget () is a Norwegian publishing company based in Oslo. Kunnskapsforlaget was established in 1975, as a partnership between H. Aschehoug & Co. (W. Nygaard) and Gyldendal Norsk Forlag. The purpose was to co-operate on publishing encyclopaedias and dictionaries. The first volume of Store norske leksikon (SNL) was published in 1978. A fishing village is a village, usually located near a fishing ground, with an economy based on catching fish and harvesting seafood. The continents and islands around the world have coastlines totalling around 356,000 kilometres (221,000 mi). From Neolithic times, these coastlines, as well as the shorelines of inland lakes and the banks of rivers, have been punctuated with fishing villages. Most surviving fishing villages are traditional.
