Ruel Johnson
Ruel Johnson is a Guyanese author. Johnson won the 2002 Guyana Prize for Literature for best first fiction manuscript for a collection of short stories entitled ''Ariadne and Other Stories'', which he self-published the following year with assistance from COURTS and GuyEnterprise. Johnson, then 22, was the youngest person ever to win the prize. He also won the 2012 Guyana Prize for Literature for submitting the best book of fiction. In 2016 he participated in the International Writing Program's Fall Residency at the University of Iowa, in Iowa City, IA, and was the first Guyanese to participate in the programme. He is the Cultural Policy Advisor through the Ministry of Education, and since 2014 has been working to establish a national cultural policy. Guyana ( or ), officially the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, is a country on the northern mainland of South America. Guyana is an indigenous word which means "Land of Many Waters". The ''Stabroek News'' is a privately owned newspaper published in Guyana. It takes its name from ''Stabroek'' , the former name of Georgetown, Guyana. It was first published in November 1986, first as a weekly but it later changed to a daily print newspaper. President's College is a senior secondary school located in Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara, Guyana. Students can enter the school through the National Grade Six Assessment and the lower sixth form in the academic performance of the student at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate. History President's College, opened in 1985, was founded by the late president of Guyana Forbes Burnham, who launched the project in 1983 but died before the school opened. Students used to be selected from the top two percent of candidates in the Secondary School Entrance Examination (SSEE) and subjected to an evaluation process including interviews with school personnel. Georgetown is the capital and largest city of Guyana. It is situated in Demerara-Mahaica, region 4, on the Atlantic Ocean coast, at the mouth of the Demerara River.
