Rue Royale, Lyon
The Rue Royale is a street located in the 1st arrondissement of Lyon and was the main street of the quarter when it was created. It starts between the Place Servetus and the Rue de Provence and ends by joining the Grande Rue des Feuillants. There are many traboules closed which link the street with the Quai Lassagne and the rue d'Alsace-Lorraine. It is served by line C of the metro (Croix-Paquet station). History When it was opened in 1870 after filling and construction, the rue Royale was the main and the nicer street of the Tolozan quarter created by Soufflot, the other streets being rue Dauphine, rue de Berri and rue de Provence. Many wealthy merchants began to live in the street and many restaurants opened. Originally, the street was a little longer, but the north was demolished in the mid-20th century with the goal of allowing the exit of the Tunnel de la Croix-Rousse. The 1st arrondissement of Lyon, France is one of the nine arrondissements of the City of Lyon. Traboules (from Latin ''transambulare'' via vulgar Latin ''trabulare'' meaning "to cross") are a type of secret covered passageways primarily associated with the city of Lyon, France, but also located in the French cities of Villefranche-sur-Saône, Mâcon, Saint-Étienne, along with a few in Chambéry). In Lyon, they were originally used by silk manufacturers and other merchants to transport their products. Lyon Metro Line C
Line C () of the Lyon Metro is the modern incarnation of the ''Funiculaire Croix-Rousse - Croix-Paquet'' (''Croix-Rousse - Croix-Paquet Funicular''), an old cable-hauled railway operating on part of the current alignment. In 1891, the original funicular line was opened, running between its namesake stations. After surviving the closure of the nearby ''funiculaire Rue Terme - Croix-Rousse'' in 1967, this line closed in 1972 for refurbishment and conversion to rack railway technology, reopening for service in 1974 (four years before lines A and B opened). When it was integrated with the metro as Lyon Metro Line C in 1978, the line's southern end was extended from ''Croix-Paquet'' to ''Hôtel-de-Ville'' (City Hall), also equipped with rack rail. Tunnel De La Croix-Rousse
The Tunnel de la Croix-Rousse is a pair of two tunnels located in the 1st and 4th arrondissements of Lyon, a road tunnel opened to traffic on 19 April 1952 and a sustainable transport tunnel opened in 2013. Description It follows the line of the Route nationale 6 and is a link between the Rhône to the Saône rivers. It crosses the hill of la Croix-Rousse. The roadway was composed of 2 x 2 routes with no real separation of roadways until the construction of a central wall in 1999. Its use is only for vehicles with weights less than 3.5 tonnes. The tunnel length is 1,782 meters. The speed is limited to 50 km/h (30 km/h when it rains) and an automatic radar used to be located at its exit in the direction Lyon-Vaise. Eugénie Brazier
Eugénie Brazier (12 June 1895 – 2 March 1977), known as "la Mère Brazier", was a French chef who, in 1933, became the first person awarded six Michelin stars, three each at two restaurants: La Mère Brazier in the rue Royale, one of the main streets of Lyon, and a second, also called La Mère Brazier, outside the city. This achievement was unmatched until Alain Ducasse was awarded six stars with the publication of the 1998 Michelin Guide. Born in La Tranclière in the French departement of Ain, near Lyon, Brazier was raised on a small farm, and entered domestic service in her teens.
