Roman Abelevich Kachanov
Roman Abelevich Kachanov (russian: link=no, Роман Абелевич Качанов; 25 February 19214 July 1993) was a Soviet animator who worked primarily in the stop-motion animation technique. He directed the popular series of films about Cheburashka: ''Gena the Crocodile'', ''Cheburashka'', ''Shapoklyak'' and ''Cheburashka Goes to School''. Life Early years Kachanov was born in 1921 in Smolensk. His mother was Haya Yakovlevna Kachanova; his father, Abel Mendelevich Kachanov, was a shoemaker. His mother died in 1932, when he was 11 years old. In spring 1939, Kachanov was called up for military service in the Red Army in the town of Chkalovsky, near Moscow. This deployment separated him permanently from his father and his only, older sister Maria (both were killed in Smolensk during the Holocaust). Kir Bulychev (russian: Кир Булычёв [Kir Bulychyov]; 18 October 1934 – 5 September 2003) is a pen name of Igor Vsevolodovich Mozheiko (И́горь Все́володович Може́йко), a USSR, Soviet Russian science fiction writer, critic, translator and historian. His Masterpiece, magnum opus is a children's science fiction series ''Alisa Selezneva'', although most of his books are adult-oriented. His books were adapted for film, TV and animation over 20 times – more than any other Russian science fiction author – and Bulychev himself wrote scripts for early adaptations. ''The Mitten'' (russian: Варежка, Varezhka) is a 1967 Soviet animated film directed by Roman Kachanov. The film received international recognition. Plot summary The film centers on a girl who wants a dog. She brings home a puppy, but her mother wouldn't let the puppy stay. The girl is upset and goes outside to the playground, where all the other kids are walking their dogs. She starts playing with her mitten, pretending that the mitten is a dog. And the power of her imagination turns her mitten into a puppy, which keeps the mitten's red color and black spots on the back. The puppy starts chasing a cat, which ends up finding shelter on top of the ad board saying "Everyone who has a dog is welcome to take part in the kennel club competition!"
