Riikka Purra
Riikka Purra (born 13 June 1977) is a Finnish politician currently serving in the Parliament of Finland for the Finns Party for the Uusimaa (constituency), Uusimaa constituency. In August 2021, she was elected the new leader of the party after Jussi Halla-aho. Political career In 2016, Purra joined the Finns Party as a political planner. She served as a campaign manager for the presidential candidate Laura Huhtasaari in the 2018 Finnish presidential election. She was elected as a Member of Parliament from the constituency of Uusimaa in the June 2019 election with 5,960 votes and became the first deputy leader of the Finns party. In March 2021, she criticised the government of overspending when it formed a three billion euro support package for municipalities during the COVID-19 pandemic in Finland. Finns Party
The Finns Party, formerly known as the True Finns ( fi, Perussuomalaiset, PS, sv, Sannfinländarna, Sannf.), is a right-wing populist political party in Finland. It was founded in 1995 following the dissolution of the Finnish Rural Party. The party achieved its electoral breakthrough in the 2011 Finnish parliamentary election, when it won 19.1% of votes, becoming the third largest party in the Finnish Parliament. In the 2015 election the party got 17.7% of the votes, making it the parliament's second-largest political party. The party was in opposition for the first 20 years of its existence. In 2015, it joined the coalition government formed by Prime Minister Juha Sipilä. 2021 Finns Party Leadership Election
The 2021 Finns Party leadership election () was held in Jyväskylä, Finland, on 14 August 2021. All members of the party who had paid their subscription were allowed to vote in the election. In June 2021, the incumbent party chair Jussi Halla-aho, who had led the party since 2017, informed that he would not run for re-election as chairman of the party, but would continue his role in parliament and his municipality. Riikka Purra won the election in the first round with over 50% of the vote.
