French Battleship République
''République'' was a pre-dreadnought battleship, the lead vessel of the built for the French Navy built in the early 1900s. Laid down in December 1901, she was launched in September 1902 and commissioned in January 1907. Armed with a main battery of four guns, she was outclassed before even entering service by the revolutionary British battleship , that had been commissioned the previous December and was armed with a battery of ten guns of the same caliber. Though built to an obsolescent design, ''République'' proved to be a workhorse of the French fleet, particularly during World War I. During the ship's peacetime career, ''République'' served with the Mediterranean Squadron; this period was occupied with training exercises and cruises in the western Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic. She was moored near the battleship when the latter exploded accidentally in 1911, and she was damaged by flying debris. Following the outbreak of war in July 1914, ''République'' was u ...

République-class Battleship
The ''République'' class consisted of a pair of pre-dreadnought battleships—, the lead ship, and —built for the French Navy in the early 1900s. They were ordered as part of a naval expansion program directed at countering German warship construction authorized by the German Naval Laws, German Naval Law of 1898. The French program called for six new battleships; the last four became the very similar . ''République'' and ''Patrie'', designed by Louis-Émile Bertin, were a significant improvement over previous French battleships. They also had a much more effective armor protection arrangement that remedied the tendency of earlier battleships to lose stability from relatively minor damage. Both ships entered service with the fleet in 1907, after the revolutionary British battleship had been ship ...

La République (airship)
The Lebaudy ''République'' (later known as ''La République'') was a semi-rigid airship built for the French army in Moisson, France, by sugar manufacturers Lebaudy Frères. She was a sister ship of the ''Patrie'', the main differences between the two being in the dimensions of the gasbag (or 'envelope') and the ballonet.Squier G.O. in Flight Vol. I No. 10 Although she was operationally successful, the ''République'' crashed in 1909 due to a mechanical failure, killing all four crew members. Background The ''République's'' predecessor, the Lebaudy ''Patrie'', had been so successful that three further airships of the same design were ordered by the French government in March 1907. Two of them saw service under the names ''République'' and ''Liberté''. The ''République'' was completed in June 1908, flew for the first time June 24 and was handed over to the French army on 31 July of that year. Other governments had been equally impressed, and the Russian and Austria ...
