Rural Municipality Of Rossburn
The Rural Municipality of Rossburn is a former rural municipality (RM) in the Canadian province of Manitoba. Name bestowed in 1879 to mark the career of R.R. Ross, a settler who arrived in that year from Molesworth, Ontario. It was originally incorporated as a rural municipality on December 22, 1883. It ceased on January 1, 2015 as a result of its provincially mandated amalgamation with the Town of Rossburn to form the Rossburn Municipality. The former RM is located in the Parkland Region of the province and borders the Waywayseecappo First Nation. It had a population of 514 in the 2006 census. A rural municipality (RM) is a type of incorporated municipality in the Canadian province of Manitoba. Under the province's ''Municipal Act'' of 1997, an area must have a minimum population of 1,000 and a density of less than to incorporate as a rural municipality. Manitoba has 98 RMs, which had a cumulative population of 301,438 as of the 2016 Census. This is a decrease from 116 RMs prior to January 1, 2015, when municipalities with less than 1,000 people were directed by the provincial government to amalgamate with adjoining municipalities to comply with the ''Municipal Act''. The 2015 municipal amalgamations in Manitoba was the result of new legislation (''Municipal Amalgamations Act'') in the province that required a minimum population threshold of 1,000 people in order to incorporate a municipality. Rossburn is an unincorporated urban community in the Rossburn Municipality, Manitoba. Prior to 1 January 2015, Rossburn was designated as a town. It is near Waywayseecappo First Nation. There is an elementary school and a collegiate school. Rossburn is also home to Brandon Wheat Kings player Chad Nychuk who was deemed the name “The Rossburn Rifle” after scoring multiple game winning goals as a 20 year old. Chad became a fan favourite in the Westman area and you can find his face on shirts around the area. “The rifle” was born and raised in Rossburn and put it on the map. Parkland is an informal geographic region of the Canadian province of Manitoba, located between Lakes Manitoba and Winnipegosis on the east and the Manitoba–Saskatchewan border on the west. Waywayseecappo First Nation
The Waywayseecappo First Nation ( oj, Wewezhigaabawing) is a First Nations band government whose reserve is located twenty miles (32 km) east of Russell, Manitoba, Canada. The First Nation's reserve is 10,059 hectare (24,856 acres) and is located near the southwestern corner of the Riding Mountain National Park. It is bordered by the Rural Municipality of Rossburn and the Rural Municipality of Silver Creek. The First Nation also hold interest together with 32 other First Nations on the 37.1 hectare (91.7 acre) Treaty Four Reserve Grounds (Indian Reserve No. 77), located adjacent to Fort Qu'Appelle. Its population was 1,219 in 2011. They are home of the MJHL team Waywayseecappo Wolverines.
