Roy And Royce
Roy and Royce is the Zimbabwean twin singing duo of Roy and Royce Gomo. They gained popularity during the Urban Grooves movement of Zimbabwe, and they have recorded under Galaxy Entertainment and their own label, Twin Peaks Recordings. The twins took music lessons from form 1-4 at Gokomere High School and later recorded at Old International radio. They started off as a trio with their friend, Misheck Chikaka, in a group called ROMIRO. It was short-lived, however, and the twins and Chikaka went their separate ways. The pair kicked off their music career with their hit "Handirege" in 2002, immediately followed by "Zuva Rangu". Both tracks reached number 1 on Zimbabwean music charts. Urban Grooves
Zimbabwean music is heavily reliant on the use of instruments such as the mbira, Ngoma drums and hosho. Their music symbolizes much more than a simple rhythm, as the folk and pop style styled music was used as a symbol of hope for Zimbabweans looking to gain independence from Rhodesia. Music has played a significant role in the history of Zimbabwe, from a vital role in the traditional Bira ceremony used to call on ancestral spirits, to protest songs during the struggle for independence. Gokomere High School
Gokomere High School is a boarding school sixteen km from Masvingo, Zimbabwe. It was founded in July 1898 as a centre for vocational training and Sunday School. Secondary education started in 1910 under the captainship of the Jesuit Fathers. The brethren missionaries took over in 1940. One of the schools prestigious achievements is the Diocesan Choir title and the Diocesan Sports Title held at Mukaro Mission in 2016. They won the title 4 times. Nokusingaperi Guni alias Nox, is a Zimbabwean musician, performing artist, songwriter and producer based in South Africa. He is renowned for the musical movement in Zimbabwe of the early 2000s dubbed Urban Grooves. Background Born Enock Guni on the 6th of September 1983 in Zaka, Masvingo in Zimbabwe, he made his debut as Nox with his first major hit “Iwe Maria” in 2002.
