Route 55 (MTA Maryland)
LocalLink 36 is a bus route operated by the Maryland Transit Administration in Baltimore and its suburbs. The line currently runs from Towson to Fox Ridge, serving Parkville, Overlea, Rosedale, and Essex, and the Essex campus of the Community College of Baltimore County (formerly Essex Community College). History Route 36 started operating in 1973 as Route 55 between Overlea and Towson, with branches via Joppa Road and Taylor Avenue, and to Hunt Valley. A year later, as the Route 9 was introduced, the Hunt Valley service on this line was truncated to Towson. In 1977, Route 55 was combined with Route 2, which had operated limited service between Overlea and Fox Ridge. For the next 20 years, the line operated from the Towson area to Franklin Square Hospital, with selected trips, mostly during rush hour, continuing to Fox Ridge. The Maryland Transit Administration provides the primary public bus service for the Baltimore metropolitan area and commuter bus service in other parts of the state of Maryland. Route 52 is a bus route operated by the Maryland Transit Administration in Baltimore and its suburbs. The line is a dedicated service for employees of Stella Maris, a complex of long term care facilities in Timonium, Maryland. Route 52 replaced Route 12 under BaltimoreLink. History Route 52 was formed in 2005 as Route 12 as replacement for the Stella Maris branch of Route 8, which was discontinued as a part of the Greater Baltimore Bus Initiative. The branch, along with all other special branches of Route 8, were proposed for total elimination with no replacement under the original GBBI plans. Essex is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Baltimore County, Maryland, United States. Essex has a long history dating back to 1909. The population was 39,262 at the 2010 census and is growing in population each year. The town hosts beaches, parks, wetlands, a courthouse, and a museum which was once a school, courthouse, jail, and firehouse. CityLink Gold is a bus route operated by the Maryland Transit Administration in Baltimore. It replaced Route 13 in 2017. The line currently runs from Walbrook Junction in West Baltimore (the intersection of North Avenue, Hilton Street, and Bloomingdale Road) to Canton, mostly along North Avenue. The line has two main branches, both operating to Canton: one that operates via Fells Point (these buses are marked ''Fells Point'') and the other via Linwood and East Streets (these buses are marked ''Canton''). LocalLink 30 is a bus route operated by the Maryland Transit Administration in Baltimore and its suburbs. It replaced route 44 following the 2017 BaltimoreLink overhaul of the bus network. The line currently runs from Rosedale Industrial Park near Pulaski Highway just outside the Baltimore city limits on the east side of the city across the northern portion of the city to Security Square Mall, with selected peak hour trips to the Social Security Administration. Route 47 is a limited stop bus route, identified as a "Quickbus", operated by the Maryland Transit Administration in Baltimore. The line currently runs from the Overlea Loop in Northeast Baltimore to Walbrook Junction, in West Baltimore. Service operates every 15 minutes during rush hour only. The main roads on which it operates include Poplar Grove Street, Saratoga Street, Gay Street, and Belair Road. Quickbus 40 was a limited stop bus route operated by the Maryland Transit Administration in Baltimore and its suburbs. The line was discontinued in June 2017 as part of the BaltimoreLink system rebranding along with the other "Quickbus" limited-stop routes. In April 2022, the MTA announced a proposal to revive the route before the end of the same year as the QuickLink 40. The line operates hourly (except overnight) between the Moravia loop in Northeast Baltimore and Whispering Woods, just east of Bowleys Quarters. History Route 59 was formed under the name "Route 24" in 1988 as a split-off from Route 35, which previously provided the original route of this service, serving Oliver Beach since 1970, and the Town and Country Apartments in Bowleys Quarters since 1971.
