Route 1 (Uruguay)
Route 1 is a national route of Uruguay. In 1975, it was assigned the name Brigadier General Manuel Oribe, a national hero of Uruguay. It connects Montevideo with Colonia del Sacramento to the west along the coast. The road is approximately in length. The distance notation along Route 1 uses the same Kilometre Zero reference as Routes 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and IB, which is the Pillar of Peace of Plaza de Cagancha in the Centro of Montevideo. Route 1 crosses the Santa Lucia River on the border between the departments of Montevideo and San Jose along a modern 4-lane bridge with a length of 800 metres. It was crossed by the old 2-lane bridge opened in 1925 on the old Route 1, which still exists today and is used as a shortcut by the people of Santiago Vázquez. Bella Vista, Montevideo
Bella Vista is a '' barrio'' (neighbourhood or district) of Montevideo, Uruguay and part of the Capurro / Bella Vista composite barrio, with Artigas Boulevard separating the two. Location Bella Vista shares borders with Capurro to the north west, Prado to the north, Reducto to the east, Aguada and the Port of Montevideo (which belongs to the Ciudad Vieja) to the south, and it borders the Bay of Montevideo to the south west. Ecilda Paullier
Ecilda Paullier is a small town in the San José Department of southern Uruguay. Geography The town is located in the west part of the department, on Route 1, at the junction with Route 11, northwest of Montevideo. The stream Arroyo Cufré flows west of the city. History It was founded as "Santa Ecilda" on 16 May 1883. On 6 April 1911, it was renamed as "Ecilda Paullier" and declared a "Pueblo" (village) by the Act of Ley N° 3.748. Bella Unión
Bella Unión is a city in the north part of Artigas Department of Uruguay. History The original settlement was founded on 13 May 1829 under the name "Santa Rosa". It was started by Fructuoso Rivera, who played a prominent role in the early history of Uruguay. On 20 April 1928, it was renamed to "Bella Unión" by the Act of Ley No. 8.207. Paysandú () is the capital of Paysandú Department in western Uruguay. Location The city is located on the banks of the Uruguay River, which forms the border with Argentina. It is one of the most important highways in the country along with Route 5, connecting the south coast near Rafael Perazza with Bella Unión in the extreme northwest. Rivera () is the capital of Rivera Department of Uruguay.
