Round Table Club
Round Table International is an international non-political and non-religious organisation for young men founded in Norwich, England, in 1927 by Louis Marchesi. Round Table members comprise community leaders, professionals and driven individuals. This organization, initially founded for young men in England, has 30,000 active members, known as Tablers, from over 65 countries . Round Table is part of the Round Table Family of clubs. Description Round Table is an international movement with active members in most European countries and Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and the Americas. Round Table International is governed by board members elected at the various Annual General Meetings. The board meets regularly to establish policies and make recommendations as to the overall direction of Round Table on a global basis. Louis Marchesi
Erminio William Louis Marchesi (19 January 1898 – 10 December 1968) founded the Round Table, an international fellowship and community charitable organisation for young men. His mother was born in England to Irish parents and his father was Swiss. Marchesi was a young member of the Rotary Club in Norwich when he listened to the radio and heard the then Prince of Wales challenge the young men of Britain to "sit round a table (Round Table) adopt an idea, adapt it and improve it" (the motto is Adopt, Adapt, Improve). He conceived a club which could support younger businessmen; an idea he suggested to the membership in 1926. The first Round Table - "Norwich Round Table No. 1" was formed at Suckling House, Norwich on 14 March 1927, with Marchesi as Secretary and other young Rotarians among its officers. British Industries Fair
The British Industries Fair was an exhibition centre in Birmingham, England. The large complex of buildings was built in 1920 and was situated between Castle Bromwich Aerodrome and the railway line. For two weeks every year it was the most visited attraction in the country. In 1933, the first diesel locomotive arrived for display at the BIF. The final B.I.F was on 6 to 17 May 1957.Birmingham Post 15/5/57 The associated aerodrome, which often showed air displays, closed with the final flight on 31 March 1958. The nearby Castle Bromwich railway station received many important visitors for the BIF, including King George V and Queen Mary in 1928, the Duke of York, Princess Mary and Lord Lascelles. They were often entertained afterwards by the Bradfords at Castle Bromwich Hall. The site was sold in 1960, along with that of the airfield.
