Ross Town F.C.
Ross Town F.C. was a football club based in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire, England. The club was formed in the summer of 1993 following the amalgamation of the town's two senior sides, Ross United and Woodville, and joined the Herefordshire League Premier Division. They joined the Hellenic Football League Division One in 1996 but dropped back down to the Herefordshire League in 2007. In late 2009 Ross Town resigned from the Herefordshire League and folded. Their ground was on a loop of the River Wye. Ross-on-Wye
Ross-on-Wye (Welsh: ''Rhosan ar Wy'') is a market town in England, near the border with Wales. It had a population of 10,582 according to the 2011 census, estimated at 11,309 in 2019. It lies in south-eastern Herefordshire, on the River Wye and on the northern edge of the Forest of Dean. History The name "Ross" is derived from the Welsh or Celtic for a "promontory". It was renamed "Ross-on-Wye" in 1931 by the General Post Office, due to confusion with other places of the same or similar name (such as Ross in Scotland). The Herefordshire Football League, known for sponsorship purposes as ZZOOMM Herefordshire Football League, is an association football competition based in Herefordshire. It also features some clubs from surrounding counties, including Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Shropshire. The Premier Division operates at level 11 of the English football league system and is a regional feeder league to Step 6 of the National League System. History The league was established in 2016 as Herefordshire FA County League after the disbandment of the Herefordshire Football League. The Herefordshire Football Association, simply known as the ''Herefordshire FA'' or ''HFA'', is the governing body of football in the county of Herefordshire.
