Rose Lilian Hill (5 June 1914 – 22 December 2003) was an English actress and operatic soprano, who remains best known for her role as Madame Fanny La Fan in the British television series '' 'Allo 'Allo!''. She was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company. Biography Hill was born in London and won a scholarship to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She started her career as a soprano in 1939, singing at the Sadler's Wells Opera (later English National Opera) in London; soubrette and lyric soprano roles such as Despina in Mozart's opera ''Così fan tutte''. For the Glyndebourne Festival she sang Barbarina in Mozart's ''The Marriage of Figaro''. In 1948 she sang Lucy in the world premiere of Benjamin Britten's adaptation of ''The Beggar's Opera''. Hill's career in television and film started with the 1958 film ''The Bank Raiders'' and ended in 1994 with a guest appearance in ''A Touch of Frost''. Rose Hill is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Lee County, Virginia, United States. The population was 799 at the 2010 census, up from 714 at the 2000 census. Geography Rose Hill is located in western Lee County at (36.672039, −83.370062). U.S. Route 58 passes through the north side of the community, leading east to Jonesville, the county seat, and west to Cumberland Gap, Tennessee. The Kentucky border is just over a mile to the northwest, on the crest of Cumberland Mountain. Rose Hill is an area located in southeast Garland, Texas, United States. It was formerly a distinct unincorporated community in Dallas County until annexed by Garland in 1970. The community was first settled in 1853 and composed of land grants by John Little, W.S. Peques, and J.W. Smith. It was named Rose Hill in 1931 either in honor of early settler P.W. Rose or after roses found at the local churchyard. The population was 117 in 1904 and diminished to 50 by 1910. It had featured a post office (1884-1906) as well as four stores, two churches, a school, a restaurant, a blacksmith, and approximately twenty residences. The population gradually increased to 175 in 1964, the last recorded population number until annexation by Garland six years later.
