''Rosa'' 'Alexandre Girault' is a deep cherry pink hybrid wichurana, a large-flowered climbing rose. The cultivar was bred by René Barbier in 1907. The rose was awarded the Award of Garden Merit (AGM) by the Royal National Rose Society (RNRS) in 2012. Description 'Alexandre Girault' is a hybrid wichurana rose, a robust climber, 12' to 26 ft (365–790 cm) in height, with a 12 ft (365 cm) spread. The rose has large, very full petals, that have a flat bloom form. It typically blooms in clusters once a year with a later scattered bloom. 'Alexandre Girault' has a strong, fruity fragrance. L'Haÿ-les-Roses () is a commune in the southern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located from the centre of Paris. L'Haÿ-les-Roses is a ''sous-préfecture'' of the Val-de-Marne ''département'', being the seat of the Arrondissement of L'Haÿ-les-Roses. Roseraie Du Val-de-Marne
Roseraie du Val-de-Marne or Roseraie de L'Haÿ is a rose garden in L'Haÿ-les-Roses, Val-de-Marne, France. History Jules Gravereaux (who made his fortune in the Bon Marché department store in Paris), purchased a large property in L'Haÿ about 8 km south of Paris in 1892 and hired the famous landscape architect and horticulturalist Édouard André to lay out a garden containing 1600 roses. The garden claims to be the first ever garden dedicated exclusively to roses. Gravereaux collected roses from all over Europe and started to create new rose varieties for the production of rose oil for perfume, which would facilitate the process of distillation. He worked on hybrids of Rosa rugosa and developed the cultivar 'Rose à parfum de L'Haÿ', among others. In all he created 27 new cultivars, primarily for rose oil production. The first hybrid tea roses were created in France in the mid-1800s, by cross-breeding the large, floriferous Hybrid Perpetuals with the tall, elegant Tea roses. Barbier Frères & Compagnie was a commercial rose nursery best known for introducing large-flowered Wichurana ramblers to Europe in the early 1900s. The nursery was established in 1894 by brothers Albert & Eugène Barbier and located in Olivet, near Orleans, France, René Barbier, son of original co-founder, Albert Barbier, led the nursery's rose hybridizing program and is responsible for creating a new type of rambling rose that continues to be popular today.
