The Roman Catholic Diocese of Soroti ( la, Sorotien(sis)) is a diocese located in the city of Soroti in the Ecclesiastical province of Tororo in Uganda. History The current bishop of Soroti Catholic Diocese is Rt. Rev. Joseph Eciru Oliach, who was consecrated on 25 May 2019. The Vicar General is Msgr. Robert Echogu. Vicar for the Clergy is Msgr. Silver Opio, who also doubles as the diocesan development coordinator. Vicar for the Religious is Msgr. John Eriau. The Chancellor of the diocese is Fr. Gonzaga Ongereny Wazi Wazi, assisted by Fr. Erasmus Desiderius Wandera
Erasmus Desiderius Wandera (16 April 1930 – 8 December 2022) was a Ugandan Roman Catholic priest who served as the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Soroti, from 29 March 1981 until 27 June 2007. Wandera died on 8 December 2022, at the age of 92. Background and priesthood Wandera was born on 16 April 1930 in Dabani, in present-day Busia District, in the Eastern Region of Uganda. Soroti District is a district in Eastern Uganda. It is named after its chief municipal, administrative and commercial headquarters, Soroti, where the district headquarters are located.
