Resia, Friuli
Resia ( Resian: ; ; ) is a (municipality) in the Regional decentralization entity of Udine, in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of northeast Italy, bordering on the municipalities of Chiusaforte, Lusevera, Resiutta, and Venzone, and also on two of the Slovenian municipalities (Kobarid and Bovec). Its residents speak an archaic dialect known as Resian, which is – according to most linguists – a transitional dialect between the Carinthian and Littoral dialects of Slovene. Although they maintain their own traditional system of family names, which are of Slavic origin, the people of Resia have either Italian or Italianized surnames, similarly to some areas in Venetian Slovenia. It is located in the alpine valley of the same name in the Julian Alps, about northwest of Trieste and about north of Udine, on the border with Slovenia and around from the border with Austria. Slavia Friulana, which means Friulian Slavia (), is a small mountainous region in northeastern Italy and it is so called because of its Slavic population which settled here in the 8th century AD. Torre River
The Torre ( Friulian: ''Tôr''; ) is a river of the Province of Udine in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, northeast Italy. It is the main right tributary of the Isonzo; the Torre together with its own tributary the Natisone drain a large part of the Isonzo basin. The river rises in the Julian Prealps at around above sea level. It flows through the communes of Tarcento and Reana del Rojale, where, as a result of the karst topography, it disappears underground. Slovenian Littoral
The Slovene Littoral, or simply Littoral (, ; ; ), is one of the traditional regions of Slovenia. The littoral in its name – for a coastal-adjacent area – recalls the former Austrian Littoral (''Avstrijsko Primorje''), the Habsburg possessions on the upper Adriatic coast, of which the Slovene Littoral was part. Soča
Soča (, in Slovene) or Isonzo (, in Italian; other names: ; ; or ') is a long river that flows through western Slovenia () and northeastern Italy (). An Alpine river in character, its source lies in the Trenta Valley in the Julian Alps in northwestern Slovenia, at an elevation of . The river runs past the towns of Bovec, Kobarid, Tolmin, Kanal ob Soči, Nova Gorica (where it is crossed by the Solkan Bridge), and Gorizia, entering the Adriatic Sea close to the town of Monfalcone. Their highest summit, High Kanin (, ) is 2,587 m above sea level, while the adjoining Little Kanin (''Mali Kanin'') is 2571 m; the pair are respectively the 12th and 13th tallest peaks in Slovenia. Glacial Valley
U-shaped valleys, also called trough valleys or glacial troughs, are formed by the process of glaciation. They are characteristic of mountain glaciation in particular.
