Reet Palm
Reet Palm (since 2014 Palm-Killing; born on 14 September 1959 in Tartu) is an Estonian rower and coach. In 1978 she won bronze medal at World Rowing Championships. Between 1975 and 2007, she became an 18-times Estonian champion in different rowing disciplines. Since 1991 she has been working as a rowing coach. One of the rowers trained by her is Allar Raja. Her spouse is the rowing coach Matti Killing. Awards * 1978 and 1979: Estonian Athlete of the Year. World Rowing Championships
The World Rowing Championships is an international rowing regatta organized by FISA (the International Rowing Federation). It is a week-long event held at the end of the northern hemisphere summer and in non-Olympic years is the highlight of the international rowing calendar. History The first event was held in Lucerne, Switzerland, in 1962. The event then was held every four years until 1974, when it became an annual competition. Also in 1974, Men's lightweight and Women's open weight events were added to the championships. Initially, Men's events were 2000 metres long and Women's events 1000 metres. At the 1984 World Championships in Montreal, Canada, Women's lightweight demonstration events were raced over a 2000-metre course for the first time. Allar Raja
Allar Raja (born 22 June 1983) is an Estonian rower. He is a member of rowing club "SK Kalev" located in Pärnu. Rowing career 2000–2008 Raja competed in the World Rowing Junior Championships in 2000 in the quadruple sculls event (19th) and in 2001 in the double sculls event (13th). In 2004 he competed in the U-23 World Regatta in the single sculls event achieving 8th position. His first appearance in the World Rowing Championships was in 2005 in Gifu, Japan in the double sculls event with Silver Sonntak. They were second in Final C, achieving 14th position overall. Raja won his first World Championships medal in 2006 in Eton, Great Britain, where ha was a member of the bronze-winning quadruple sculls team with Andrei Jämsä, Tõnu Endrekson and Igor Kuzmin. 2007 in Munich, Germany he competed in the quadruple sculls event with Kuzmin, Latin and Taimsoo earning 8th position. Matti Killing
Matti Killing (born on 17 March 1948 in Pärnu) is an Estonian rowing coach. Killing graduated from the Tallinn Pedagogical Institute's Faculty of Physical Education. From 1965 until 1974, he won several medals at Estonian Rowing Championships. Since 1962 he worked as a rowing coach. Students: Marek Avamere, Kaspar Taimsoo, Allar Raja. Estonian Athlete Of The Year
The Estonian Athlete of the Year ( et, Eesti Aasta Sportlane) is an annual award presented by the Estonian Olympic Committee (''Eesti Olümpiakomitee'', EOK) to one male and one female sportsperson judged to have delivered the best performance over the course of the year. The winners of the award, which was first conceived in the 1930s and has been presented every year since 1955, are chosen by an aggregated vote from sporting journalists, national sporting federations, and the public at large. Initially an accolade presented to one individual, the award was split into male and female categories beginning in 1967. In 2020 the two categories were merged due to the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic to the international and national sporting calendars.
