Redhouse, County Kilkenny
Redhouse () is a townland in County Kilkenny, Republic of Ireland, Ireland located midway between the towns of Callan, County Kilkenny, Callan and Kilmanagh, County Kilkenny, Kilmanagh. Redhouse is noted in historical records as having a water well, well which was used by thousands during the Great Irish Famine as many other wells in the area had gone dry. To this is attributed a higher than average survival rate in the area during the famine. Redhouse, Eastern Cape
Redhouse is a small village in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, located to the north of the city of Port Elizabeth. It is adjacent to a declared wetland reserve, soon hopefully to be a Ramsar site. The village is situated on the Zwartkops River, and is host to the Redhouse Yacht Club. The village was built around the Redhouse train station which is a stopping point for passenger and goods trains coming from or going to the Port Elizabeth harbour. There are over 10,000 water birds here, in the summer, including beautiful flamingos aplenty. Redhouse Yacht Club
The Redhouse Yacht Club (RYC), which is amongst the oldest yacht clubs in South Africa, hosts large dinghy racing, dinghy races, and operates a training program that has produced international champion sailors. The club is located in the village of Redhouse, Eastern Cape, Redhouse, Eastern Cape, South Africa within a fifteen-minute drive of Port Elizabeth. It is situated on the Zwartkops River, a tributary to Algoa Bay which is a popular vacation destination, and a major South African sailing centre. Redhouse is an unincorporated community in Madison County, Kentucky, in the United States. It is located at the junction of Kentucky Route 388 and Kentucky Route 3377. Redhouse was settled in the 1840s. The origin of the name is debated, as it could have been named after the nearby Red House Tavern, or a large red brick house. A post office for the town opened in 1883, and closed in 1954. Hylton Red House, known locally just as Red House (often spelled as Redhouse), is a suburb in the north east of Sunderland, England, situated between Downhill to the west and Marley Pots and Witherwack to the east. The area, Hylton Red House, is one of the largest council housing schemes in England. In common with most estates in Sunderland, the street names all start with the same letter - 'R' in the case of Red House. The whole of the estate falls within the SR5 postal code. Red House is home to Red House Academy (on the site of the original Hylton Red House Comprehensive School), which was the third biggest school in Britain at one point educating over 3500 students. Redhouse Castle
Redhouse Castle is a ruined tower house castle, 2 km east of Longniddry, East Lothian, Scotland, UK, on the B1377, close to Spittal. The castle designated as a scheduled monument. It is no longer protected as a category A listed building. History The first version of the castle appears to have been a religious institution, probably a hospice for pilgrims and travellers, belonging to the Douglas family. In April 1421 the Earl of Douglas transferred the estates of Ballencrieff and Gosford to his mistress Christian de Ramsay to provide for her and their children. The castle, a four-storey manor house in red sandstone, remained in the hands of the Douglas family, but it was sold in 1607 to John Layng, the Keeper of the Signet. His initials and those of his wife Rebecca Dennistoun are carved into the pediment. He died in 1612 and is buried in the churchyard of Greyfriars Kirk, Edinburgh.
