''Recordando a Chile'', also known as ''Una Chilena en París'', is an album from Violeta Parra released on the EMI Odeón label (LDC-36533) in the summer of 1965. It was recorded during Parra's stay in Santiago between August 14 and October 21, 1964, and after her return from Europe in approximately August 1965. Tracks 2, 3, 5, 6, 10, and 11 were recorded in stereo and are believed to be from the 1965 sessions. The album cover features artwork by Violeta Parra. Isabel Parra provided percussion and additional vocals on track 4 and chorus on tracks 2 and 6. Angel Parra provided guitar and chorus on tracks 2 and 6. Nicanor Parra recited the words on track 1. Hilda Parra provided the chorus on track 6. Rafael Berríos Rabanito played the accordion on track 6. Members of the Chico Reyes Orchestra provided backing on track 3. Violeta Parra
Violeta del Carmen Parra Sandoval (; 4 October 1917 – 5 February 1967) was a Chilean composer, singer-songwriter, folklorist, ethnomusicologist and visual artist. She pioneered the Nueva Canción Chilena (The Chilean New Song), a renewal and a reinvention of Chilean folk music that would extend its sphere of influence outside Chile. Her birthdate (4 October) was chosen "Chilean Musicians' Day". In 2011, Andrés Wood directed a biopic about her, titled ''Violeta Went to Heaven'' (Spanish: ''Violeta se fue a los cielos''). The stamp on her birth certificate says she was born in San Carlos, Ñuble Province, a small town in southern Chile on 4 October 1917, as Violeta del Carmen Parra Sandoval. Odeon Records
Odeon Records is a record label founded in 1903 by Max Straus and Heinrich Zuntz of the International Talking Machine Company in Berlin, Germany. The label's name and logo come from the Odéon-Théâtre de l'Europe in Paris. History Straus and Zuntz bought the company from Carl Lindström that he had founded in 1897. They transformed the Lindström enterprise into a public company, the Carl Lindström A.G. and in 1903 purchased Fonotipia Records, including their Odeon-Werke International Talking Machine Company. The collective is led by Violeta Parra with other artists invited to her popular art center in the La Reina commune in northwest Santiago. Isabel Parra
Violeta Isabel Cereceda Parra (born 29 September 1939), better known as Isabel Parra, is a famous Chilean singer-songwriter and interpreter of Latin American musical folklore. Early years Parra was born in Chile in 1939 and began her career in music at the age of 13 when she made her first recording with her world-renowned mother, the folklorist Violeta Parra. She has since interpreted and recorded the songs of some of the most famous Latin American folk singers. Career After the 11 September 1973 Chilean coup d'état she lived in exile in Argentina and France for many years. She returned to Chile when democracy returned to her country. Ángel Parra (singer-songwriter)
Luis Ángel Cereceda Parra, known as Ángel Parra (27 June 1943 – 11 March 2017), was a Chilean singer and songwriter, son of Violeta Parra and Luis Cereceda Arenas, brother of Isabel Parra. His main civil surname was Cereceda, but he performed under his maternal surname Parra. He traveled abroad helping to maintain the Nueva Canción tradition in Chilean expatriate communities in Europe, North America, and Australia. His son Ángel Cereceda Orrego, also known as Ángel Parra, was the lead guitarist for the band Los Tres. Parra died of lung cancer in Paris, France, on 11 March 2017, aged 73. Nicanor Parra
Nicanor Segundo Parra Sandoval (5 September 1914 – 23 January 2018) was a Chilean poet and physicist. He was considered one of the most influential Chilean poets of the Spanish language in the 20th century, often compared with Pablo Neruda. Parra described himself as an " anti-poet," due to his distaste for standard poetic pomp and function; after recitations he would exclaim ''"Me retracto de todo lo dicho"'' ("I take back everything I said").
