Raymond Harland Hayes (13 July 1909 - 16 May 2000) was a British archaeologist. He wrote and published extensively about archaeology, primarily in the North York Moors area. North York Moors
The North York Moors is an upland area in north-eastern Yorkshire, England. It contains one of the largest expanses of Calluna, heather moorland in the United Kingdom. The area was designated as a national parks of England and Wales, National Park in 1952, through the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949. Covering an area of , the National Park has a population of 23,380. It is administered by the North York Moors National Park Authority, whose head office is based in Helmsley. Hutton-le-Hole
Hutton-le-Hole is a small village and civil parish in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire, England, about north-west of Pickering. It is a popular scenic village within the North York Moors National Park. Sheep roam the streets at will. History The village appears in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Hoton. Since then it has been known as Hege-Hoton, Hoton under Heg and Hewton. The name Hutton-le-Hole means ''place of the burial ground near the hollow'', but the full name appears only in the 19th century. Near the end of the 13th century, the village was granted to St Mary's Abbey, York. In the 1600s the village was mainly inhabited by Quakers working as weavers or in agriculture. The Quaker evangelist John Richardson died there in 1753 at the age of 87. About four miles away in Kirbymoorside stands an old building that began as a Quaker Meeting House in 1690; it was much modified in 1790 and extended about 1810. Philip Corder
Philip Corder (–29 May 1961) was a British archaeologist and curator, and president (1954-1957) of the Royal Archaeological Institute. Biography Corder was Master of Bootham School, where he taught English, before becoming the curator of Verulamium Museum. Corder was elected as an Honorary member of the Yorkshire Philosophical Society in 1940. He served as the Assistant Secretary to the Society of Antiquaries of London from 1943-1961, with which he was a Fellow. Corder appeared in four episodes of the 1950s panel show ''Animal, Vegetable, Mineral'' between 1955 and 1957. Excavations Corder undertook the first excavations at the Roman fort at Malton (''Derventio)'' in 1927–1930, along with his colleague Dr John Kirk.
