Ras Abu Aboud
Ras Abu Aboud ( ar, راس بو عبود, Ra’s Abū ‘Abbūd) is a district located in the municipality of Doha in Qatar. It is an industrial district containing power and desalination plants. It accommodates one of the three major power stations which supply electricity to the whole country. History In the 1820s, George Barnes Brucks carried out the first British survey of the Persian Gulf. Qatar
Qatar (, ; ar, قطر, Qaṭar ; local vernacular pronunciation: ), officially the State of Qatar,) is a country in Western Asia. It occupies the Qatar Peninsula on the northeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula in the Middle East; it shares its sole land border with Saudi Arabia to the south, with the rest of its territory surrounded by the Persian Gulf. Al Safliya Island ( ar, اَلْجَزِيرَة اَلسَّافِلِيَّة, Jazīrat as Sāfliya) is an island located off the coast of Doha, the capital city of Qatar. The island is located 3 miles north of Ras Abu Aboud. Description Al Safliya Island is about 2 miles long east to west, very narrow, and curves with the northern side of the Doha Port; it is low, sandy and has clusters of grass. Stadium 974
Stadium 974 (, previously known as Ras Abu Aboud Stadium) is a football stadium now slated for dismantlement in Ras Abu Aboud, Doha, Qatar, about 10 km east of Doha. Opened 30 November 2021, it is a temporary venue, made from 974 recycled shipping containers, that hosted matches during the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup and the 2022 FIFA World Cup, after which dismantlement began. It was the first temporary venue in FIFA World Cup history. Design and construction The stadium was designed by Fenwick Iribarren Architects. Constructed on a 450,000 square-metre waterfront site, it had a modular design and incorporated 974 recycled shipping containers in homage to the site's industrial history and the international dialing code for Qatar ( +974). Since 2015, Qatar has been divided into eight municipalities.
