Raphael Cheenath
Raphael Cheenath (29 December 1934 – 14 August 2016) was the archbishop of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar, India. He was ordained as a priest of the Society of the Divine Word on 21 September 1963 and appointed bishop of Sambalpur Sambalpur () is the fifth largest city in the Indian State of Odisha. It is located on the banks of river Mahanadi, with a population of 335,761 (as per 2011 census). Prehistoric settlements have been recorded there. It is the home of the Samb ..., India on 28 February 1974. He was appointed as archbishop of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar on 1 July 1985 and retired on 11 February 2011. Cheenath died on 14 August 2016 at Holy Spirit Hospital in Mumbai. In Christian denominations, an archbishop is a bishop of higher rank or office. The Society of the Divine Word ( la, Societas Verbi Divini), abbreviated SVD and popularly called the Verbites or the Divine Word Missionaries, and sometimes the Steyler Missionaries, is a Catholic Church, Catholic clerical religious congregation of Pontifical Right for men. As of 2020, it consisted of 5,965 members composed of Presbyter, priests and religious brothers working in more than 70 countries, now part of VITA international. It is one of the largest missionary congregations in the Catholic Church. Its members add the nominal letters SVD after their names to indicate membership in the Congregation. Holy Spirit Hospital is a Charitable Trust Hospital located in Andheri, Mumbai, owned and managed by the Missionary Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit, which began in 1964 as an out-patient clinic. History In 1964, four nuns from the Netherlands-based Missionary Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit established an outpatient medication dispensary under a tree in Andheri. By 1967 they had developed a 65-bed hospital which eventually grew to a comprehensive 300-bed facility. Later, a dirt track path between the Mahakali Caves and the hospital was replaced by a road extension from Chakala. BEST provided a twice-daily bus service at the hospital's request.
