Randy Simms
Randy Simms is a former politician and radio host. He was mayor of Mount Pearl, Newfoundland and Labrador from 2007 to 2017. Simms was also host of ''Open Line'', a call-in radio talk show that airs weekday mornings on the VOCM/CFCB radio network, and a political commentator for ''The Telegram'' and CBC News. Municipal politics Simms became mayor of Mount Pearl in 2007, when the previous mayor, Steve Kent stepped down to represent the district of Mount Pearl North in the House of Assembly. He was re-elected by acclaimation in the 2009 and 2013 elections. Simms announced in May 2017 announced that he will not seek another term in the 2017 election. 2015 Newfoundland And Labrador General Election
The 2015 Newfoundland and Labrador general election, held on November 30, 2015, elected members of the 48th General Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Progressive Conservative Party which had governed since 2003 election, was defeated by the Liberal Party, which won a majority in the new assembly. The election had been scheduled for October 13, 2015, under Newfoundland and Labrador's House of Assembly Act, mandating a fixed election day on the second Tuesday in October in the fourth calendar year after the previous election. However, the House of Assembly amended the act in June 2015, to delay the election until November 30, 2015, so that the election campaign would not overlap with the federal election scheduled on October 19, 2015. The Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador is a political party in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The party is the provincial branch, and affiliate of the federal Liberal Party of Canada. It has served as the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador since December 14, 2015. Harbour Main, formerly Harbour Main-Whitbourne and Harbour Main-Bell Island, is a provincial electoral district for the House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Prior to 1975, the district elected two MHAs. Between 1972 and the year 2000, it was a Tory stronghold, apart from a two-term Liberal breakthrough in the 1990s.
