Municipal elections in Canada fall within the jurisdiction of the various provinces and territories, who usually hold their municipal elections on the same date every two, three or four years, depending on the location. Each province has its own nomenclature for municipalities and some have local elections for unincorporated areas which are not technically municipalities. These entities can be called cities, towns, villages, townships, hamlets, parishes and, simply, municipalities, county municipalities, regional county municipalities, municipal districts, regional districts, counties, regional municipalities, specialized municipalities, district municipalities or rural municipalities. Jordan Brown (Newfoundland And Labrador Politician)
Jordan Brown (born September 14, 1989) is a Canadian politician who was elected to the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly in the 2019 Newfoundland and Labrador general election. He represents the electoral district of Labrador West as a member of the Newfoundland and Labrador New Democratic Party (NL NDP). He was re-elected in the 2021 provincial election. Brown trained as a welder in Happy Valley-Goose Bay and returned to Labrador City to work. In 2013 he helped restart the local Heritage Society. In 2014, he led a successful year-long campaign to have the Labrador flag recognized as the symbol of Labrador and flown at the land border crossings in Labrador and at government buildings. Torbay, Newfoundland And Labrador
Torbay is a town located on the eastern side of the Avalon Peninsula in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The town is located north of the capital city of St. John's and is part of the St. John's metropolitan area. Due to the Torbay's close proximity to St. John's, the town's population is quickly growing. According to the 2021 census the population was 7,852, up from 7,397 in 2011. History The name Torbay comes from Torbay, Devon, England and was first mapped in 1615 by John Mason. It comes from the old Anglo-Saxon "Tor" which means "a rocky hill". Stephenville (Canada 2021 Census population 6540) is a town in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, on the west coast of the island of Newfoundland. The town functions as a local service centre for the southwestern part of the island, serving a direct population of 35,000 people from surrounding areas and over 100,000 people along the entire southwestern coast of the island. The primary employer in the town was a paper mill, which closed in 2005. Gregory Smith (born June 18, 1996) is a Canadian curler from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. He currently skips his own team out of the RE/MAX Centre. Career Smith skipped Team Newfoundland and Labrador at two consecutive Canadian Junior Curling Championships in 2015 and 2016 with his team of Ryan McNeil Lamswood, Kyle Barron and Craig Laing. In 2015, they had a 3–6 eleventh-place finish and in 2016, they finished in ninth with a 5–4 record. While still in juniors, Smith and his team played in the 2015 GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 2 which was held in Paradise, Newfoundland and Labrador. There, they finished with a winless 0–4 record. Smith played in his first Newfoundland and Labrador Tankard in 2018 with his new team of Matthew Hunt, Andrew Taylor and Ian Withycombe. Shawn Skinner is a Canadian politician in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Skinner is a former St. John's City Councillor (1993-1997; 2020-2021) and former Member of the House of Assembly (MHA) for the district of St. John's Centre. He served as a MHA from 2003 to 2011 and was a minister in the cabinets of Danny Williams and Kathy Dunderdale. Jamie A. Korab, ONL (born November 28, 1979 in Harbour Grace, Newfoundland) is a Canadian curler and politician. Korab was the lead for the gold medal-winning Canadian men's team at the 2006 Winter Olympics skipped by Brad Gushue. In the 2017 Newfoundland and Labrador municipal elections, Korab was elected to St. John's City Council representing Ward 3. Career Korab played in two Canadian Junior Curling Championships and three Briers before playing at the Olympics. At the 1997 Canadian Juniors, he played as a third for Randy Turpin. Andrew Wells (1944/5 – June 2021) was a Canadian politician who served as the 13th mayor of St. John's from 1997 to 2008 in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. He graduated from Prince of Wales College in 1961 and later obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and a Bachelor of Arts degree in education in 1966 and 1969, respectively. Danny Breen (born ) is a Canadian politician, who is the mayor of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. He was elected in the 2017 municipal election on September 26, 2017. He was acclaimed in the 2021 municipal election. Prior to his election to the mayoralty, Breen represented Ward 1 on St. John's City Council from 2009 until 2017. Paradise is a town on the Avalon Peninsula in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Terry Ryan (ice Hockey, Born 1977)
Terrence William James Ryan (born January 14, 1977) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player and actor. He was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens eighth overall in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft and played eight games with the organization between 1996 and 1999. Early life Raised in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland, Ryan started playing sports at an early age. His father, Terry Ryan Sr., played for the Hamilton Red Wings in the OHA before venturing on his own hockey quest that would see him play five years of pro hockey highlighted by a year in the WHA with the Minnesota Fighting Saints. When the younger Ryan was 10, his second cousin Michelle Meger was killed in Edmonton by a drunk driver. Meger was in her early twenties when she lost her life.
