Radio Volks Universiteit
NTR is a Dutch public-service broadcaster, supplying television and radio programming of an informational, educational, and cultural nature to the national public broadcasting system, Nederlandse Publieke Omroep (NPO). NTR was created in 2010, following the merger of the Nederlandse Programma Stichting (NPS) and two educational broadcasters, Televisie Academie (Teleac) and the Radio Volksuniversiteit (RVU). For details of these predecessor organizations, see further below. Public broadcasting organizations in the Netherlands (that is to say, in the Dutch context, listener and viewer associations) do not have their own stations but are allotted airtime on the three public television and eight public radio networks broadly in relation to the size of their respective memberships. NTR, however, as an independently established statutory body, is not a membership-based organization. History RVU (1930–2010) RVU, the Radio Volksuniversiteit (People's University Radio), was the longe ...

Public Broadcaster
Public broadcasting involves radio, television and other electronic media outlets whose primary mission is public service. Public broadcasters receive funding from diverse sources including license fees, individual contributions, public financing and commercial financing. Public broadcasting may be nationally or locally operated, depending on the country and the station. In some countries a single organization runs public broadcasting. Other countries have multiple public-broadcasting organizations operating regionally or in different languages. Historically, public broadcasting was once the dominant or only form of broadcasting in many countries (with the notable exceptions of the United States, Mexico and Brazil). Commercial broadcasting now also exists in most of these countries; the number of countries with only public broadcasting declined substantially during the latter part of the 20th century. Definition The primary mission of public broadcasting is that of public service ...

Ekstra Weekend
''Ekstra Weekend'' was a Dutch radio broadcast by the Dutch public broadcaster NTR for 3FM. The show aired on Friday nights between 7 and 10 pm. The show was hosted by Gerard Ekdom and Michiel Veenstra. The name ''Ekstra Weekend'' is a contraction of the last names of the two hosts. When one of the two was absent, he was replaced by Domien Verschuuren, nicknamed Iemand Anders (someone else), who used to be the producer of the show until Tjitse Leemhuis took his role. On 6 May 2011, the 'voice of 3FM', Eric Corton, substituted for Gerard Ekdom. In the past, other DJs have been known to replace either one of the regular DJs. Rob Stenders, Paul Rabbering and Bart Arens have all been substitute DJs. They all have their own shows on 3FM. Producer Tjitse Leemhuis (a.k.a. Tjibbe Tjibsma) was also part of the show. An important characteristic of the show was that it looks and sounds like total chaos. Usually more of the items go wrong or won't air on the time that they're meant ...

History As early as 2008 there were plans for a new news programme, combining NOVA, the NOS Journaal and ''Den Haag Vandaag'' (The Hague Today). The plan for this programme was rejected by the NPO board of directors after complaints from other broadcasters, as was the cooperation between the membership-based broadcaster VARA and the public broadcasters NPS and NOS. This was because the NPO did not want a member-based broadcaster such as the traditionally left-leaning VARA to be involved in an objective and independent news programme.
