REPER
Renewing Romania's European Project ( ro, Reînnoim Proiectul European al României, REPER) is a social liberal and pro-European political party in Romania. It is a splinter of the Save Romania Union (USR) currently led by Dragoș Pîslaru and Ramona Strugariu as acting co-presidents, founded in May 2022, in opposition to USR's current leadership under Cătălin Drulă. The party is mostly associated with former technocratic Prime Minister and former USR president Dacian Cioloș, who became the party's leader. Dacian Cioloș
Dacian Julien Cioloș (; born 27 July 1969) is a Romanian agronomist who served as Prime Minister of Romania from November 2015 to January 2017. He previously served as Agriculture Minister under Călin Popescu-Tăriceanu between October 2007 and December 2008. In November 2009, European Commission President José Manuel Barroso nominated him to be the next Agriculture Commissioner, a position he assumed in February 2010 and held until his term expired in November 2014. In November 2015, President Klaus Iohannis named him Prime Minister; Cioloș assumed office after receiving approval from Parliament. Save Romania Union
The Save Romania Union ( ro, Uniunea Salvați România, USR) is a liberal political party active in Romania and Moldova, currently the third largest party in the Parliament with 43 deputies and 22 senators, and fifth at national level (following the 2020 Romanian local elections), after the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR/RMDSZ) and the People's Movement Party (PMP), two smaller centre-right political parties in the country. The party was founded following the success of the Save Bucharest Union (USB) party in the 2016 local elections. Ramona Strugariu
Ramona Strugariu (born 6 August 1979) is a Romanian politician of REPER and previous member of USR PLUS/USR who has been serving as a Member of the European Parliament since 2019. Political career In parliament, Strugariu has been serving on the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs. In addition to her committee assignments, Strugariu is part of the parliament's delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly. Dragoș Pîslaru
Dragoș Pîslaru is a Romanian economist and politician of REPER who has been serving as a Member of the European Parliament since 2019. He was previously a member of USR PLUS/USR. He also held the position of Minister of Labor, Family, Social Protection and the Elderly in the government of Prime Minister Dacian Cioloș from 18 April 2016, until 4 January 2017. Renew Europe (Renew) is a liberal, pro-European political group of the European Parliament founded for the ninth European Parliament term. The group is the successor to the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) group which existed during the sixth, seventh and eighth terms from 2004 to 2019. Dan Barna (born 10 July 1975) is a Romanian politician and lawyer. He served as the president of the Save Romania Union (USR), and as co-president of USR-PLUS until 1 October 2021. He was elected a member of the Chamber of Deputies in 2016. Biography Barna was born in Sibiu, Sibiu County, Socialist Republic of Romania on 10 July 1975. He graduated from the law school at the University of Bucharest in 1998 and obtained a master's degree in project management from Politehnica University of Bucharest in 2003. After working as a lawyer, he completed a course financed by the European Commission, and became a consultant for EU funds. A consultancy company he founded with a colleague led him to implement a number of projects financed from the European Social Fund. 2020 Romanian Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in Romania on 6 December 2020 to elect the 136 members of the Senate and the 330 constituent members of the Chamber of Deputies. While the Social Democratic Party (PSD) remained the largest political party in the Parliament, its popular vote share dropped considerably, more specifically by a third. Following the elections, a centre-right coalition government was formed by the National Liberal Party (PNL), USR PLUS, and the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians (UDMR/RMDSZ) (i.e. the former Cîțu Cabinet) with Florin Cîțu as Prime Minister. 2020 Romanian Local Election
Local elections were held in Romania on 27 September 2020. Initially planned for June 2020, the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic led the Government of Romania to postpone the elections to a date no later than 31 December 2020, and extending all the terms of the local offices due to expire on 5 June 2020. The aforementioned decision was deemed unconstitutional, and, in the end, a law was passed that extended the terms of the local officials up to 30 November 2020, and allowed the elections to be called by the Parliament, rather than by the Government, no later than that day. On 8 July 2020, the Parliament of Romania adopted a law setting the date of the elections on 27 September 2020.
