Qu Tanzhou
Qu Tanzhou () is the director of the Chinese Arctic and Antarctic Administration. In 2007 Qu Tanzhou was the director of China's Polar Office of the State Oceanic Administration. According to ''The Age'' in January 2010 Qu Tanzhou was part of a high-level delegation of senior officials that traveled to the Antarctic, led by Xu Shaoshi, China's Minister for Land and Resources. The delegation travelled aboard the '' Xue Long'', China's icebreaker. Chinese Arctic And Antarctic Administration
The Chinese Arctic and Antarctic Administration (), often abbreviated as the CAA (previously the Chinese Antarctic Administration of the State Antarctic Research Committee), is a Beijing-based agency of the People's Republic of China's State Oceanic Administration (SOA). Established in 1981, it organizes China's scientific program for both the Arctic and Antarctic, and it provides logistic support to Antarctic expeditions. There are several; divisions, including General Affairs, Operation & Logistics, Science Programs, International Cooperation, representation in the Chinese Embassy in Chile, and a Winter Training Base. Xu Shaoshi
Xu Shaoshi (; born October 1951) is a Chinese politician, and former Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission of the People's Republic of China. Xu was born in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. He joined the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in December 1974. From April 2007 to March 2013, he was Minister of Land and Resources and the party chief of the Ministry. He is also the general supervisor of national land. Icebreaker
An icebreaker is a special-purpose ship or boat designed to move and navigate through ice-covered waters, and provide safe waterways for other boats and ships. Although the term usually refers to ice-breaking ships, it may also refer to smaller vessels, such as the icebreaking boats that were once used on the canals of the United Kingdom. For a ship to be considered an icebreaker, it requires three traits most normal ships lack: a strengthened hull, an ice-clearing shape, and the power to push through sea ice. Icebreakers clear paths by pushing straight into frozen-over water or pack ice. The bending strength of sea ice is low enough that the ice breaks usually without noticeable change in the vessel's trim.
