Putnam County is the least extensive county in the U.S. state of Illinois. According to the 2010 census, it had a population of 6,006. The county seat is Hennepin. The county was formed in 1825 out of Fulton County and named after Israel Putnam, who was a general in the American Revolution. Putnam County is part of the Ottawa, IL Micropolitan Statistical Area. Putnam County Courthouse (Illinois)
The Putnam County Courthouse, located at 120 N. 4th Street in Hennepin, is Putnam County, Illinois' county courthouse. Built in 1839, the building is the oldest courthouse in the state which is still in use. The courthouse was designed in the Greek Revival style and features four Doric columns at its front entrance. J.A. Williams later (1893) constructed an addition, which included a vault and document room, on the north side of the courthouse. Illinois Route 29 (IL 29) is a two to four lane state road that runs south from U.S. Route 6/Illinois Route 89 at Spring Valley to U.S. Route 51/ Illinois Route 16 at Pana, running through Pekin, Peoria and Springfield. Bureau County is a county located in the U.S. state of Illinois. As of the 2010 United States Census, the population was 34,978. Its county seat is Princeton. Bureau County is part of the Ottawa, IL Micropolitan Statistical Area, and the Hennepin Canal Parkway State Park is located partly in this county. History Bureau County was created from a portion of Putnam County in 1837.
