Posets Peak
Pico Posets or Punta de Llardana is the second highest peak of the Pyrenees, after Aneto. It is located in the Spain, Spanish province of Huesca (province), Huesca and is high. Ascent route From the ''Angel Orús'' refuge (2,095 m), a well-marked path heads northwest. After an hour of climbing the route crosses a stream. Further on, the path forks. The route follows the right-hand fork along a narrow valley (''Canal Fonda''), which has a snowy section almost all year round, so it is advisable to take an ice axe and crampons. In under three hours, the path leads to the foot of the ''Tooth of Llardana'' (which can be ascended more easily when returning from the summit of the Posets). Following the stone slope after four hours of ascent the summit is reached. The descent to the refuge follows the same route and takes about three hours. Benasque
Benasque (; in Benasquese dialect: ''Benás''; an, Benás) () is a town in the comarca of Ribagorza, province of Huesca, (Spain). It is the main town in the Benasque Valley, located in the heart of the Pyrenees and surrounded by the highest peaks in that range. Climate The climate is of a high mountain type, with cool summers, and cold winters and frequent snow. Its average annual temperature is 9.4 degrees Celsius (at 1138 meters above sea level). Language The regional language of Benasque is a Catalan– Aragonese transitional dialect that shares features with Gascon ( Occitan). It is usually called ''patués'' ("patois") by its native speakers. Possessing features that are transitional between Aragonese and Catalan, it has sometimes been classified as a variety of Catalan. Ice Axe
An ice axe is a multi-purpose hiking and climbing tool used by mountaineers in both the ascent and descent of routes that involve snow, ice, or frozen conditions. Its use depends on the terrain: in its simplest role it is used like a walking stick, with the mountaineer holding the head in the center of their uphill hand. On steep terrain it is swung by its handle and embedded in snow or ice for security and an aid to traction. It can also be buried pick down, the rope tied around the shaft to form a secure anchor on which to bring up a second climber, or buried vertically to form a stomp belay. Crampons
A crampon is a traction device that is attached to footwear to improve mobility on snow and ice during ice climbing. Besides ice climbing, crampons are also used for secure travel on snow and ice, such as crossing glaciers, snowfields and icefields, ascending snow slopes, and scaling ice-covered rock. There are three main attachment systems for footwear: step-in, hybrid, and strap bindings. The first two require boots with welts, or specialized mountaineering boots with dedicated front and rear lugs, as a cam-action lever attaches the crampon to the heel. The last type (strap bindings) are more versatile and can adapt to virtually any boot or shoe, but often do not fit as precisely as the other two types.
