Popstars (German Season 1)
In fall 2000, German television network RTL2 started with the production of a German adaption of ''Popstars''. Over the course of three months more than 4,500 hopeful female singers attended open television auditions in Hamburg, Berlin, Frankfurt, Leipzig, Cologne, Oberhausen, Stuttgart and Munich. Judged by Dutch entertainer Simone Angel, booker Mario M. Mendryzcki and Rainer Moslener, a director of A&R, thirty-two out of two hundred pre-selected girls eventually made it from the local recall shows to Majorca, Spain, to get trained in singing, dancing, and fitness. While the judges continued eliminating two or three girls each day with the help of choreographer Detlef "D!" Soost, eleven finalists remained and were sent home to prepare. In November 2000, Angel and Moslener visited each of the contestants at home to reveal whether or not they had been selected for the band. No Angels
No Angels are an all-female pop group from Germany, formed in 2000. Originally a quintet, consisting of band members Nadja Benaissa, Lucy Diakovska, Sandy Mölling, Vanessa Petruo, and Jessica Wahls, they originated on the debut season of the German adaptation of the talent series ''Popstars'' and were one of the first television-cast acts to achieve sustainable success throughout Central Europe in the early 2000s. Following a major success with record-breaking single "Daylight in Your Eyes" and debut album ''Elle'ments'' in 2001, a series of hit records established their position as one of the most successful female band vocalists to emerge in the early decade. Ji-In Cho
Ji-In Cho (born 30 December 1976) is a German heavy metal singer of Korean descent. She has been the lead vocalist of the symphonic metal band Krypteria since December 2004 until their hiatus after her pregnancy. Following this, she became the lead vocalist of And Then She Came, a band consisting of most of the former members of Krypteria. Biography Ji-In Cho began an extensive musical education, including piano lessons, when she was six years old. Later she studied Music (Cologne music academy) and Theology (University of Cologne). In 2003, Cho was unwittingly registered by a friend to the German edition of the ''Fame Academy'' television show for musical talents. For the show she recorded a cover version of Alanis Morissette's song "Ironic" which brought her into the German singles charts. Jessica Wahls
Jessica Martina Wahls (born 2 February 1977), also known under her nickname Jess, is a German pop singer and television host, who rose to fame as one of the founding members of the successful all-female pop band No Angels, the " biggest-selling German girlband to date", according to the German media. Biography Early life Wahls is the only child born to an African-American father, James, and a German mother, Gabriele "Gabi" Wahls. Vanessa Anneliese Petruo-Zink (born 23 October 1979) is a German former singer, songwriter, actress and television personality. Born and raised in Berlin within a family of actors, she had minor roles in television and as a voice actress before she rose to fame as one of the members of the girl group No Angels, which were formed in 2000 on the German television talent show '' Popstars'', becoming one of the best-selling girl groups of European origin of all time. Throughout her musical career, Petruo scored four number-one hits, including " Something About Us", which she co-wrote, and sold over five million albums and singles worldwide. Sandy Mölling (born 27 April 1981) is a German singer and television personality. She rose to fame as one of the members of the girl group No Angels, which were formed in 2000 on the German television talent show '' Popstars'', becoming one of the best-selling girl groups of European origin of all time. During their hiatus, Mölling released a solo album, ''Unexpected'' (2004), which produced the top ten singles "Unnatural Blonde" and "Tell Me", and became a judge on the fourth season of ''Popstars''. Ludmila Lubomirova "Lucy" Diakovska ( bg, Людмила Любомирова Дяковска; born 2 April 1976) is a Bulgarian and German singer and television personality. She rose to prominence as one of the founding members of the all-female pop band No Angels, the " biggest-selling German girlband to date", according to the German media. After a series of commercially successful releases with the group, Diakovska released two singles and her solo album ''Lucylicious'' under her same-titled stage name in 2005. Nadja Benaissa (born 26 April 1982) is a German singer and television personality. She rose to fame in late 2000 when she auditioned for the German adaption of the reality television show '' Popstars'' and became a member of the girl group No Angels, one of the best-selling girl groups of European origin of all time. During their hiatus, Benaissa released her solo album, '' Schritt für Schritt'' (2007), which produced the single " Ich hab dich", and represented Hesse in the Bundesvision Song Contest 2006 with the song, finishing in fourth place. No Angels reunited in 2007. Benaissa announced her departure from the group in 2010 after she was found guilty of one count of causing grievous bodily harm and two counts of attempted bodily harm and given a two-year suspended sentence. Oberhausen
Oberhausen (, ) is a city on the river Emscher in the Ruhr Area, Germany, located between Duisburg and Essen ( ).
