Pomona is a rural town and locality in the Shire of Noosa, Queensland, Australia. In the the locality of Pomona had a population of 2,910 people. Pomona is located around 135 kilometres north of Brisbane. It is located at the base of Mount Cooroora (439 meters) at the northern end of the Sunshine Coast. Geography The locality of Pomona is bounded to the south by the Bruce Highway and along most of its northern boundary by Six Mile Creek. The North Coast railway line passes through the locality from the south-east to the north-west, with the town served by the Pomona railway station (). Yurol railway station is an abandoned railway station on the line (). The township of Pomona is surrounded by rural residential acreage properties and small farms. The Sunshine Coast is a peri-urban region in South East Queensland, Australia. It is the district defined in 1967 as "the area contained in the Shires of Landsborough, Maroochy and Noosa, but excluding Bribie Island". Noosa Biosphere Reserve
Noosa Biosphere Reserve is an internationally protected area covering the region of Noosa in Queensland, Australia. It is formally recognised as a Biosphere Reserve by the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and Man and the Biosphere (MAB) program for its highly diverse ecosystem over a relatively small space. Tuchekoi National Park
Tuchekoi National Park is a national park in Queensland, Australia. It is situated to the west and south-west of Pomona in the Noosa hinterland. Geography The Park is approximately 390 hectares of bushland surrounding Mount Cooroora, a 439 metres high intrusive volcanic plug. Walking tracks A main walking track leads from the Mount Cooroora Forest Reserve (carpark and picnic area) to the top of Mount Cooroora with several meandering tracks around the east and north sides of the mountain. A volcanic plug, also called a volcanic neck or lava neck, is a volcanic object created when magma hardens within a vent on an active volcano. When present, a plug can cause an extreme build-up of high gas pressure if rising volatile-charged magma is trapped beneath it, and this can sometimes lead to an explosive eruption. In a plinian eruption the plug is destroyed and ash is ejected. Glacial erosion can lead to exposure of the plug on one side, while a long slope of material remains on the opposite side. Pomona Railway Station
Pomona railway station is a railway station on Factory Street, Pomona, Shire of Noosa, Queensland, Australia. It is on the North Coast railway line serving the town of Pomona. It was designed by the Office of the Chief Engineer of Queensland Rail and built and opened in 1891 by Fitzwilliam Williams. Originally called Pinbarren Siding from 1891, the location was renamed to Pinbarren railway station in 1897 and then to its current name Pomona railway station in 1900. History Pinbarren Siding opened in 1891 with completion of the line from Cooran to Cooroy. In 1895 the Widgee Divisional Board received a petition from local ratepayers pointing out that a railway siding was being built near their selections and urging construction of a road to connect Yandina Road with the new railway siding.
