Peru National Football Team Indiscipline Scandals
The Peru national football team has experienced a series of indiscipline scandals since the 1990s. Miramar scandal (1996) In 1996, during the 1998 FIFA World Cup qualification season, players Nolberto Solano, Roberto Farfán, Percy Olivares, and Juan Marengo were caught drinking beer and playing music during the time in which they were supposed to be preparing for a qualifiers game against Uruguay. The football players were found along with volleyball players Jéssica Tejada and Yolanda Delgado. Peru failed to qualify for the 1998 World Cup. La Charanga Habanera scandal (2002) In 2002, during the 2002 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, a Salsa group in the VIDENA was caught entertaining the players with alcohol and music during their concentration. Peru National Football Team
The Peru national football team represents Peru in men's international football. The national team has been organised, since 1927, by the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF). The FPF constitutes one of the ten members of FIFA's South American Football Confederation ( CONMEBOL). Peru has won the Copa América twice, and has qualified for the FIFA World Cup five times (last appearing in 2018); the team also participated in the 1936 Olympic football competition and has reached the semi-finals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. The team plays most of its home matches at the Estadio Nacional in Lima, the country's capital. The team is well known for its white shirts adorned with a diagonal red stripe, which combine Peru's national colours. Wilmer Santiago Acasiete Ariadela (born 22 November 1977) is a Peruvian retired professional footballer who played as a central defender. He also holds a Spanish passport due to the many years he spent in the country, mainly with Almería, with whom he appeared in four La Liga seasons. Acasiete represented Peru in three Copa América tournaments. Club career Born in Callao, Acasiete started playing professionally with Deportivo Wanka, moving in the following year to Universitario de Deportes. Andy Jorman Polo Andrade (born 29 September 1994), commonly known as La Joya (The Jewel), is a Peruvian professional footballer who plays as a winger for Universitario and the Peru national team. 2020 CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament
The 2020 CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament was the 13th edition of the CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament, the quadrennial, international, age-restricted football tournament organised by the Confederación Sudamericana de Fútbol (CONMEBOL) to determine which men's under-23 national teams from the South American region qualify for the Olympic football tournament. In August 2018, CONMEBOL announced the return of the South American Pre-Olympic Tournament in 2020 with Colombia as the host country, after a 16-year absence. The last edition of this competition had been held in Chile in 2004. From the 2008 through the 2016 Summer Olympics, the two teams from South America were determined by the South American Youth Football Championship, always held in the previous year. Peru Olympic football team (also known as Peru under-23, Peru U23) represents Peru in international football competitions in multi-sport events such as the Olympic Games and the Pan American Games. The selection is limited to players under the age of 23, except three overage players. The team is controlled by the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF). Peru has participated in two Olympic football tournaments, one Pan American football tournament, and 7 Bolivarian football tournaments under this category. Kevin Martín Quevedo Mathey (born 22 February 1997) is a Peruvian footballer who plays as a right winger for Liga 1 club Deportivo Garcilaso. Club career Youth Quevedo's first experience on a youth academy was at Alianza Lima in 2002. Later on, he was transferred to Academia Héctor Chumpitaz, who brought him up and wherein he managed to get through all the ranks. Sergio Apraham Markarián Abrahamián (born 1 November 1944) is a Uruguayan-Argentine former football coach of Armenian descent. In 2015, he was the head coach of the Greece national football team. John Christian Galliquio Castro (born 1 December 1979) is a retired Peruvian footballer. He was a centre-back. He was called to play for the Peru national football team for the Copa America 2007, where he played 4 games with a regular performance.
