Perton
Perton is a large village and civil parish located in the South Staffordshire District, Staffordshire, England. It lies 3 miles to the south of Codsall and 4 miles west of Wolverhampton, where part of the village is almost contiguous with the city's outer suburb of Tettenhall. The name Perton is derived from 'Pear Town' due to the number of pear trees that once grew there. RAF Perton
RAF Perton is a former Royal Air Force Relief Landing Ground (RLG) located north west of Wolverhampton, West Midlands and north east of Bridgnorth, Shropshire, England. It was open between 1941 and 1946 and was built on the site of a former First World War airfield. The village of Perton now occupies the site of the former airfield. History The site was first used by No 38 Squadron between 1916 and 1918. It was abandoned after the First World War but was used sporadically for non-military flying (usually air displays). Shortly after the outbreak of the Second World War the construction of the airfield began in the typical triangular pattern with three runways (two of 1,100 yards and one of 1,400 yards) using ash from Lower Gornal and stone from Oldbury with the intention of Perton becoming a fighter station which is evident by the number of fighter pen dispersals situated around the perimeter track. Codsall
Codsall is a large village in the South Staffordshire district of Staffordshire, England. It is situated 4.5 miles northwest of the city of Wolverhampton and 13 miles east-southeast of Telford. It forms part of the boundary of the Staffordshire-West Midlands County border, along with Perton, the village is almost contiguous with Wolverhampton with very small amounts of greenbelt still separating the two settlements. Pattingham
Pattingham is a village in the civil parish of Pattingham and Patshull, South Staffordshire, near the county boundary with Shropshire. Pattingham is seven miles west of Wolverhampton and seven and a half miles east of Bridgnorth. Description Pattingham was originally a farming community but expanded housing in the mid- to late-20th century has led to it becoming a dormitory village for West Midlands conurbation. Tettenhall is an historic village within the City of Wolverhampton, England. Tettenhall became part of Wolverhampton in 1966, along with Bilston, Wednesfield and parts of Willenhall, Coseley and Sedgley. The A41 is a trunk road between London and Birkenhead, England. The de Havilland DH.61 Giant Moth was a 1920s British large single-engined biplane transport built by de Havilland at Stag Lane Aerodrome, Edgware. Intended primarily for use in Australia, a number were also shipped to Canada. Design Following the success of the de Havilland DH.50J in Australia, the company was asked to design a larger replacement using a Bristol Jupiter engine. The cabin had room for six to eight passengers with the pilot in an open cockpit behind the wings. The aircraft took only 10 weeks to design and the prototype first flew in December 1927.
