Pas De Deux (band)
Pas de Deux (Walter Verdin, Dett Peyskens and Hilde van Roy) were a Belgian band, best known for their participation in the 1983 Eurovision Song Contest, and the controversy surrounding their selection as that year's Belgian representatives. The band was formed by Verdin in Leuven in 1982. Eurovision Song Contest Pas de Deux were one of nine acts chosen for the Belgian Eurovision selections in 1983. Initially, each act performed three songs and the best from each was chosen by a jury to go forward to the final. The final took place on 19 March, when Pas de Deux's song " Rendez-vous" was chosen from the nine entrants as Belgium's representative for the 28th Eurovision Song Contest. Belgium was represented by Pas de Deux, with the song "Rendez-vous", at the 1983 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place in Munich on 30 April. The 1983 preselection has gone down as the most controversial in Belgian Eurovision history due to the extreme hostility shown by the audience towards Pas de Deux's victory. Before Eurovision Eurosong The selection consisted of three semi-finals, followed by the final on 19 March 1983. All the shows were hosted by Luc Appermont and took place at the Amerikaans Theater in Brussels. Semi-finals Three semi-finals were held to select the nine songs for the Belgian final. Belgium was represented by Jacques Zegers, with the song "Avanti la vie", at the 1984 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 5 May in Luxembourg City. Zegers was the winner of the Belgian national final for the contest, held on 2 March. Before Eurovision Eurosong French-language broadcaster RTBF was in charge of the selection of the Belgian entry for the 1984 Contest. The final was held at the RTBF studios in Brussels with ten songs participating. Voting was by a 50/50 split between an expert jury and 500 randomly chosen TV viewers. Only the top four placings were announced, with "Avanti la vie" being declared the winner. Jacques Zegers (born 25 June 1947, Brussels) is a Belgian singer, best known for his participation in the 1984 Eurovision Song Contest. Early career Born in Brussels to a Belgian mother and French father, Zegers began singing in cabaret at the age of 16 and in his spare time would participate in song contests while pursuing a career as a journalist. He released two singles, "La nuit" and "Pour elle", in 1983. He was then asked to record "LA en Olympie", the official Belgian song for the 1984 Summer Olympics. Stella Maessen (born 6 August 1953 in Zandvoort, North Holland) is a Dutch singer, best known for her participation in the Eurovision Song Contests of 1970, 1977 and 1982. Hearts of Soul In 1969 Maessen and her older sisters Patricia and Bianca formed a group, calling themselves Hearts of Soul. Following several single releases, and a No. 11 chart hit with "Fat Jack", they took part in the 1970 Dutch Eurovision selection, where their song " Waterman" ("Aquarius") earned a narrow victory, qualifying them for the 15th Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 21 March on home ground in Amsterdam.
