Parazit
Parazit ( fa, پارازیت, ', meaning "static") was a weekly half-hour Persian-language satirical television show broadcast on Voice of America's Persian service. The show poked fun at Iranian politics. Kambiz Hosseini and Saman Arbabi, Iranian expatriates living in Washington, D.C., started the show as a 10-minute segment in another show influenced by the American satirical news show ''The Daily Show''. Parazit was launched before the June 2009 presidential elections in Iran. It became very popular in Iran, reaching its audience via illegal satellite dishes, the internet, or bootleg DVDs. Its name is a reference to the Iranian government's repeated attempts to jam foreign satellite programming. Because it was distributed through unofficial channels, it is impossible to determine the audience. However, as of January 2011, the show's YouTube channel was viewed 45,000 times a week, while their Facebook page was visited 17 million times a month. A new season was reported to begin on ... Saman Arbabi
Saman Arbabi ( fa, سامان اربابی; born 1973) is an Iranian-American journalist, video director, cartoonist, host, creator, and executive producer of Voice of America's satirical television shows ''Parazit'' and ''OnTen''. His work has been called "civic satire", comedy with a political and media mission. Early life Arbabi was born in Tehran, Imperial State of Iran in 1973 and moved to France at the age of 12. He moved to France in 1985 and the United States in 1986. He has a Bachelor of Science in Communications with a Minor in Art from the University of Maryland University College. Career Saman Arbabi started his career as an intern for the popular DC-based radio show '' Diamond in the Morning'' after an ABC radio show producer, who liked his sense of humor, invited him to leave his job as a cook at Hooters and work with the station. Kambiz Hosseini ( fa, کامبیز حسینی, born 1 August 1975 in Rasht) is an Iranian political satirist, actor, television host, and radio host. He is the host of Paradox, a Podcast series that airs on Radio Farda. He was the host of ''Poletik'', a satirical news program that airs on Radio Farda, as well as weekly podcast on human rights in Iran, ''Five in the Afternoon''. He created and hosted the successful and critically acclaimed TV show ''Parazit'' on Voice of America from 2009-2012. Early life Hosseini grew up in the Iranian cities of Rasht and Mashhad. OnTen ( fa, آنتن) was an award-winning hit satirical news show that tackled domestic and international political and social issues. In a 30-minute weekly show, OnTen explored the headlines and the stories behind the headlines with cutting-edge production techniques, exclusive interviews, and witty analysis. OnTen was broadcast by satellite into Iran by the Voice of America’s Persian Service, which at the time claimed that it reached 21 percent of Iranians each week. The show title, a play on words, means antenna in Persian and is also a slang term for "spy." The show was the intellectual successor to Parazit, which was co-created by OnTen’s executive producer, Saman Arbabi. Iranian Presidential Election, 2009
Presidential elections were held in Iran on 12 June 2009, with incumbent Mahmoud Ahmadinejad running against three challengers. The next morning the Islamic Republic News Agency, Iran's news agency, announced that with two-thirds of the votes counted, Ahmadinejad had won the election with 62% of the votes cast, and that Mir-Hossein Mousavi had received 34% of the votes cast. There were large irregularities in the results and people were surprised by them, which resulted in protests of millions of Iranians, across every Iranian city and around the world and the emergence of the opposition Iranian Green Movement.
