OnTen
OnTen ( fa, آنتن) was an award-winning hit satirical news show that tackled domestic and international political and social issues. In a 30-minute weekly show, OnTen explored the headlines and the stories behind the headlines with cutting-edge production techniques, exclusive interviews, and witty analysis. OnTen was broadcast by satellite into Iran by the Voice of America’s Persian Service, which at the time claimed that it reached 21 percent of Iranians each week. The show title, a play on words, means antenna in Persian and is also a slang term for "spy." The show was the intellectual successor to Parazit, which was co-created by OnTen’s executive producer, Saman Arbabi. Saman Arbabi
Saman Arbabi ( fa, سامان اربابی; born 1973) is an Iranian-American journalist, video director, cartoonist, host, creator, and executive producer of Voice of America's satirical television shows ''Parazit'' and ''OnTen''. His work has been called "civic satire", comedy with a political and media mission. Early life Arbabi was born in Tehran, Imperial State of Iran in 1973 and moved to France at the age of 12. He moved to France in 1985 and the United States in 1986. He has a Bachelor of Science in Communications with a Minor in Art from the University of Maryland University College. Arash Sobhani
Arash Sobhani ( fa, آرش سبحانی; born 3 January 1971 in Tehran) is an Iranian musician and television host. He is the lead singer and guitarist of underground rock band Kiosk and the host of ''OnTen'', a satirical news program that airs on VOA Persian. Sobhani was born and raised in Tehran, and attended Isfahan University of Art, from where he earned a MA in architecture. He moved to the United States in 2005 to release Kiosk's first album, ''Ordinary Man''. Since then Kiosk has released nine albums and has toured in various parts of the world. Parazit ( fa, پارازیت, ', meaning "static") was a weekly half-hour Persian-language satirical television show broadcast on Voice of America's Persian service. The show poked fun at Iranian politics. Kambiz Hosseini and Saman Arbabi, Iranian expatriates living in Washington, D.C., started the show as a 10-minute segment in another show influenced by the American satirical news show ''The Daily Show''. Parazit was launched before the June 2009 presidential elections in Iran. It became very popular in Iran, reaching its audience via illegal satellite dishes, the internet, or bootleg DVDs. Its name is a reference to the Iranian government's repeated attempts to jam foreign satellite programming. Kiosk ( fa, کیوسک) is a rock band formed in Tehran in 2003, known for its blend of musical styles and its wry lyrics confronting Iranian cultural angst. History Kiosk is a pioneering Iranian rock band (The Berlin Daily Newspaper) founded by Arash Sobhani in Tehran in 2003.
