Papri Basu
Papri Basu is a Bangladeshi freedom fighter, teacher, social worker and women's rights activist. She was awarded Begum Rokeya Padak in 2019. Biography Basu was born on 2 March 1956 in Comilla to Pramath Chandra Dhar and Maya Dhar. When she was in class 8 she led a protest to remove a textbook from the curriculum against the Pakistan government. She also went on a hunger strike in front of the Comilla Education Board which was part of their protest. When the Liberation War of Bangladesh started, Basu crossed the border and went to Tripura. She and others formed a cultural organization. They performed and earned money, which was donated for the treatment of injured freedom fighters. Basu's uncle Neetish Roy Chowdhury was a correspondent for Akashvani. She helped her uncle to edit news and also wrote articles. Comilla District
Comilla District, officially known as Cumilla District, is a district of Bangladesh located about 100 kilometres south east of Dhaka. Comilla is bordered by Brahmanbaria and Narayanganj districts to the north, Noakhali and Feni districts to the south, Tripura of India to the east and Munshiganj and Chandpur districts to the west. ''Anandabazar Patrika'' (Bengali: আনন্দবাজার পত্রিকা, ) is an Indian Bengali-language daily newspaper owned by the ABP Group. According to the Audit Bureau of Circulations, it has a circulation of 1 million copies as of December 2019. Its main competitors are ''Bartaman'', ''Ei Samay'', and ''Sangbad Pratidin''. History A Bengali newspaper was published in 1876 in a small village of Magura at Jessore District in British India (now Bangladesh) by Tushar Kanti Ghosh and his father Sisir Kumar Ghosh. They named it ''Ananda Bazar'' after Tusharkanti's grandmother's sister Anandomayee. However, soon the newspaper died. In 1886, Ghosh published another newspaper, named after his grandmother Amritamoyee: ''Amrita Bazar Patrika''.
