In Persian mythology, peris (singular: peri; from fa, پَری, translit=parī, , plural , ; borrowed in European languages through ota, پَری, translit=peri) are exquisite, winged spirits renowned for their beauty. Peris were later adopted by other cultures. They are described as mischievous beings that have been denied entry to paradise until they have completed penance for atonement. Under Islamic influence, Peris became benevolent spirits, in contrast to the mischievous jinn and evil '' divs'' (demons). Scholar indicates an Indo-Iranian origin for the character, who was later integrated into the Arab houri tale tradition. Etymology The Persian word comes from Middle Persian ''parīg'', itself from Old Persian ''*parikā-''. The word has been borrowed in Azerbaijani as ''pəri'', in Hindustani as ''parī'' (Urdu: پری / Hindi: परी) and in Turkish as ''peri''. Şahkulu (painter)
Şahkulu, (Persian language, Persian form: Shahquli, Shahquli-i Baghdadi) (d. 1556) was an Ottoman Empire, Ottoman painter who played a leading role in a formation of the saz style. Saz style "in which mythical creatures derived from Chinese or Islamic sources move through an enchanted forest made up of oversized composite blossoms and feathery leaves, has parallels in the art of the Aq Qoyunlu, Aqqoyunlu and Safavid Iran, Safavid courts at Tabriz, where Shahquli trained under a master named Aqa Mirak" (it was not the Aqa Mirak, well-known painter of Tahmasp I, Tahmasp's court). According to Sam Mirza Safavi (who does not mention his emigration to Ottoman lands) Şahkulu came from Qom. His name is in a document found in Ottoman Archives among the scholars and artisans who were exiled from Tabriz to Istanbul via Amasya on 12 April 1515, the aftermath of Ottoman occupation of Tabriz after the battle of Chaldiran. Div (Persian Mythology)
Div or dev (Persian: ': ) (with the broader meaning of demons or fiends) are monstrous creatures within Middle Eastern lore. Most of their depictions derive from Persian mythology, integrated to Islam and spread to surrounding cultures including Armenia, Turkic countries and Albania. Although they are not explicitly mentioned within canonical Islamic scriptures, their existence was well accepted by most Muslims just like that of other supernatural creatures. They exist along with jinn, ''peri'' (fairies) and ''shayatin'' (devils) within South- and Central Asia demon-beliefs. Keyumars or Kiomars ( fa, کیومرث) was the name of the first king (shah) of the Pishdadian dynasty of Iran according to the ''Shahnameh''.
