Pyrzowice
Pyrzowice is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Ożarowice, within Tarnowskie Góry County, Silesian Voivodeship, in southern Poland. It lies approximately east of Ożarowice, east of Tarnowskie Góry, and north of the regional capital Katowice. The village has a population of 980, and Katowice International Airport is located nearby. Pyrzowice belongs to Zagłębie Dąbrowskie, part of historic province of Lesser Poland. The village was first mentioned in 1340, and for centuries, it was part of the Duchy of Siewierz, property of bishops of Kraków. Originally, Pyrzowice was owned by Norbertine nuns from Kraków. Across centuries, it changed hands several times. The Partitions of Poland were three partitions of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth that took place toward the end of the 18th century and ended the existence of the state, resulting in the elimination of sovereign Poland and Lithuania for 123 years. The Duchy of Siewierz was a Silesian duchy with its capital in Siewierz. The area was part of the original Duchy of Silesia established after the death of Duke Bolesław III Wrymouth in 1138 during the times of the fragmentation of Poland. Siewierz in Upper Silesia was ruled by the Silesian Piasts as part of the Duchy of Bytom under Duke Casimir. In 1312 he granted the town to his youngest son Mieszko, who renounced it in favour of his brother Władysław.
