Punctum Pygmaeum
''Punctum pygmaeum'' is a species of very small, air-breathing land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusk in the family Punctidae, the dot snails. Shell description For terms see gastropod shell. The shell is very small, 1.2-1.6 mm in width. The 0.6-0.8 x 1.2-1.6 mm shell is almost flat, extremely densely and regularly striated, appearing silky shiny light horny brown. There are 3-3.5 moderately convex whorls, the aperture is rounded, with a thin margin which is not reflected and without a lip. The umbilicus is wide (25% of shell diameter). Habitat These gastropods are commonly found in damp, dim, and undisturbed areas including the margins or wetlands, wet woodland, and leaf-littered forests. They may also live in mossy suburban gardens. They commonly lay their eggs underneath damp soil or rocks.Bard, Bruno, (1989). Distribution This species occurs in North America, from Maine to Florida, and west to Oregon and New Mexico. Habitat This small snail lives in damp leaf litter and decaying fallen beech logs. It is often found around polypore and bolete {{refimprove, date=July 2020 A bolete is a type of mushroom, or fungal fruiting body. It can be identified thanks to a unique mushroom cap. The cap is clearly different from the stem. On the underside of the cap there is usually a sp ...

Species * ''Goweriana berniceae'' Shea & Griffiths, 2010 – Bernice's pinhead snail Description The shells of this very rare species are fragile and broken easily, making it difficult ti find entire adult shells to measure. The sutures are impressed and the whorls rounded, with moderately spaced, bladed radial ribs. The aperture is roundly lunate with a closed umbilicus. The animal is unknown. Distribution and habitat The main area of occurrence of the snail is on the upper slopes of Mount Gower, living in rain forest plant litter Plant litter (also leaf litter, tree litter, soil litter, litterfall or duff) is dead plant material (such as leaves, bark, needles, twigs, and cladodes) that have fallen to the ground. Sigmurethra
Sigmurethra is a taxonomic category of air-breathing land snails and slugs, terrestrial pulmonate gastropod molluscs. This is an informal group which includes most land snails and slugs. The two strong synapomorphies of Sigmurethra are a long pedal gland placed beneath a membrane and retractile tentacles. Several families in this group contain species of snails and slugs that create love darts. Sigmurethra are known from the Cretaceous to the Recent periods. Taxonomy Of The Gastropoda (Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005)
The taxonomy of the Gastropoda as it was revised in 2005 by Philippe Bouchet and Jean-Pierre Rocroi is a system for the scientific classification of gastropod mollusks. (Gastropods are a taxonomic class of animals which consists of snails and slugs of every kind, from the land, from freshwater, and from saltwater.) The paper setting out this taxonomy was published in the journal ''Malacologia''. The system encompasses both living and extinct groups, as well as some fossils whose classification as gastropods is uncertain. The Bouchet & Rocroi system was the first complete gastropod taxonomy that primarily employed the concept of clades, and was derived from research on molecular phylogenetics; in this context a clade is a "natural grouping" of organisms based upon a statistical cluster analysis. In contrast, most of the previous overall taxonomic schemes for gastropods relied on morphological features to classify these animals, and used taxon ranks such as order, superorder ...

Micromollusk
A micromollusk is a shelled mollusk which is extremely small, even at full adult size. The word is usually, but not exclusively, applied to marine mollusks, although in addition, numerous species of land snails and freshwater mollusks also reach adult size at very small dimensions. These tiny mollusks or their tiny shells are easy to overlook, as many of them are not very noticeable to the naked eye, and thus many people are not aware that they even exist. Nonetheless there are large numbers of families and vast numbers of mollusk species, in particular marine gastropods or sea snails, which are minute enough to be considered micromollusks. Considerable numbers of marine gastropod species are only about 5 or 6 mm in adult size; many others are only about 2 or 3 mm in adult size; and a few have adult shells which are as small as one millimeter or even smaller still. Despite their tiny size, many of the shells have a good deal of elaborate sculpture. A fair number ...
